Hey all, some of you might know a site I used own and run www.Freetextures.com . Well anyway I thinking of starting it up again or starting a version of it up on my new comic website. I stopped doing freetextures.com when I created Turbo Squid. Anyone use that or heard of it www.turbosquid.com ? It allows artists to buy and sell there artwork.
Anyway on my comic site I will basically just give away the textures I do for my comic on it for free. What do ya think? Would that be werid on a comicbook site? Or should I just start up freetextures.com again?
Here is an example of what I will give away on one of the sites. Haven't done a texture in a while..what do ya think?
this the texture tiled on a flat polygon

Being an occasional texture-artist myself I can say that looks really nice. Very sharp and clear, neat work there. |

To be honest I wasnt too excited about your comic and other art, but I have to say that this piece changes my whole opinion of your abilities. Youre a texture-genious! I LOVE that thing and would kill to see how you make that and how I can do that by myself. I beg, PLEASE could you show me how youve done that? I really need to learn to create good textures and it seems like Ive found the Master of Textures! |

freetextures.com was the best texture resource on the net! bring it back!
this texture you posted looks good, but i think it has too much lighting information on it already- which makes it suitable for realtime applications (games) but less suitable for hi quality rendering. other than that , a great job. |

Yeah, I miss freetextures.com too. I played with turbosquid a little, but the textures just didn't seem to have the same level of quality as the ones you used to post. |

I definately think you should start up freetextures.com ! That site rocked. Yes, start it up.
[Switch to pimp mode]: Btw, damn cool texture. Would you be interested in writing up a tutorial for CG Channel explaining how you make your textures? Give me a shout if you're interested. [email protected] |

There is a new site which promises to provide some nice textures...
it is called www.digitexturia.com
started by a fairly well known guy called 'mcgee'.. he is at least well known at Deviantart... and among some other circles.
Anyway.. I suggest you support that site, as it promises to be a dedicated resource for artists.. with stock photos, textures, ideas, etc.. have a read of the mission statement and see if you agree.
If not then I defintely encourage you to start up FreeTextures again. |
