I think the people at StarWars would love this. You should send these types of character designs directly to George Lukas. As the fella before me said, I would love to see this puppy in motion.

Is there a story behind this, or was it a case of imagination running wild.
very interesting, makes me start envisioning an entire culture. I'm not getting a "mech" feel from this though, more like a giant insect that the people control with their minds.

That's very nice! I really like the expression on the mech's face... reminds me of the hobbes from Calvin and Hobbes for some odd reason |

how about darken(saturate) the value of the people in the front to get a better feeling for depth?
the people in the far back of the pic
look good but people in front have the same value.
same thing for the rest of the background
