I'm doing a picture for work... it's just a quick thing - supposed to do ten pictures on a certain theme. This is the second one. I'm going for an overall monochrome look wiht splashes of colour put in. Because it is such a quick image, I'm not really looking for crits here - but if you feel obligated to offer some, please do so anyway (can't say for sure if I'll change anything though... it's a finished image, I just can't pick the colour now...)

The actual question is this: Which colour variant of the background will look better? One is just the same tones as the rest of the image, and the other has a faint shade of purple in the colour.

"Coloured" background:

"Uncoloured" background:

Thanks for any input =D

Personally, I like the uncolored background.

1. It really adds something to the overall tone of the image.

2. It makes the reflection in the glasses really pop out because of it's contrast.

Hope that makes since and helps.

Great image by the way.

"She has sidebuns?" Haha, that made my day. It's a maaaaaan, baby!

Ack! He looks just like my scarey neighbour!

Mind you, to most people around here, I guess I'm the scarey neighbour, really.

But, in answer to your question, I prefer the top one. *nodnod*

uncoloured background.. This way, you keep a basic tone and then the coloured goggles just pop out of the drawing...

hmm I think the top one, the red seems to break it up abit which is good. Maybe if it was a touch subtler? Both look good tho =))

Uncoloured.
The coloured background seems to make the face look as though it's on a different plain, it stands out too much for me.
Nice piece, like the reflection on the lense.

I like the uncolored background, but I would pump up the saturation offscale for the blue in the glasses, maybe fix the hue a little to be a TINY bit more green and flashy (pure blue comes out bad and unsaturated in the higher values).

Thanks everyone! I think I'm going to go with the uncoloured background since it seems more people like that than the coloured one =)

(Even though I like the coloured one better... heheh.)

Frost: That sounds like great advice... though to be quite honest, eheh, I'm too tired and too stupid for that to make sense. Saturation offscale? This is what I get for never having studied this I guess =)

Interesting departure from your usual stuff Enayla...

I say go with the second one (if you haven't already) -- I think the color in the first one saturates it and takes away from the rest of the image... Just my two cents anyway...

Well... the reason to why it's different from what I usually do is because it's work related. Or rather... completely made for work.

I'm working with a theme of computers and humans - and this person with the glasses here is a part of a series of at least ten pictures. The first one is a hand gesturing towards a computer, then there's this one, and I'm starting on the third on Wednesday.

Speaking of which... we will have a pretty permanent art show at the place where I work - with the same theme. Computers and Humans... anyone interested to be part of it is welcome to mail me about it. There won't be any pay but there'll be a whole lot of good exposure =D

Awsome, I'd probably choose the second image. The red/ purplish tones don't really stand well when the foreground is relitively much cooler and so gray.

The only thing that I'd do (brace yourself. Here comes some advice from the least qualified person here) is add more contrast and shadow undernieth the cheekbones and maybe define some lines on the face. Maybe beside the nose and the sides of the mouth. But keep in mind, I'm probably the last person that should be giving, YOU of all people, advice.

Anyway, great job. I look forward, as always, to your next post.
