Hello everybody!
I started working at DD last week and have been incredibly busy ever since - that's why it's kinda quiet from Loki's corner.
So, I just wanted to say hello, that I miss you guys and that I didn't leave the forum for good (not that anyone cares).
If you go see Travolta's 'Swordfish' in the movies, and see a bus hauled by a helicopter crashing in the side of a building you're looking at three matte paintings I did for those shots.
And I see that things haven't changed around here, haha - Stneill is still upsetting people by the busload. Too bad, because he was behaving for a while, wasn't he?
IMHO, the moderators should close those threads swiftly though - oh well, whatever ...
I hope I'll get to post something soon ...
Til then, have a good one & paint like there's no tomorrow ...
Cheers

swordfish was pretty cool. i didnt even notice the matte paintings, which is the point i guess. they should have done something about the computers in that movie though. they're halfway between real computers and jurassic park computers. |

Loki,
OK so I am going to ask a stupid question.
When you say you did a matte painting, what does that actually mean ?
Sizes, colors, formats, how do you send x to y so it gets into the film ?
Sorry for being such a mo-ron |

dthind: well, the painting is done in Photoshop, then it's going through compositing, where they add live-action elements, and then it's being filmed out on a film recorder ...
pixualize: Cameron and Winston are long gone from DD. When I did my first tour of duty from 1995-1997 here at Digital Domain, I ran into them quite frequently.
Cameron is a cool guy - except when he's on set and things don't go they way he wants it - then you better get quickly out of what people call 'the shrapnell zone'.
Winston is a nice guy. We used to call him 'Uncle Stan'.
Both guys stepped down from the board of directors at DD in 1998. I think they're still part owners but that's about all their involvement nowadays ... oh well ... |

Hey congrats on the job. Loved Swordfish. Really great work, couldn't tell what was matted; and I ussually try to look for the subtle special effects in movies.
Anyone noticed how all the computers were Dell computers? yet the main keyboard was a mac style keyboard, and they drank Heineken and smoked winstons....talk about a giant commercial.
Oh gotta love the car though, TVR Cerbera if I remember right.
Okay, for those who have seen it, whom among you wish they were Hugh Jackman when Helga went to work?
Anyways, I strayed off the topic. Happy for you man. Congrats again. |

also, im not a hacker or anything, but im pretty sure that you dont make viruses using 3d graphics. it might be tough to think about hacking while drinking several heinekens as well. but then you wouldnt get advertising dollars. |
