haven't posted for a while. been trying to do some more finished Illustrations.
this took ages (way too long) it's a bit nutral. but I was sort of going for that. see if I could get it to work without a lot of contrast. there is contrast in the shapes tho which I think holds it together. this sort of thing realy needs a darker and more pronounced line to work I think now. it would take a lot of skill to make all the edges work without line.
I feel this needed a more detailed and finished drawing. it's a bit too unrefined and the colour is suffering as a result.
the idea is obviously a bit inspired by Alice in wonderland.
Did this just now, more of a line style. did it quick to test something out. the sketch that this came from is below.
just a quick colour thing. I got a comp upgrade (yay) and wanted to see if everything was working (and how fast it was working^_^).
Blah Blah, sketches, Blah,
you've all probably seen the Princess one that BG coloured over, but it's here just in case.
=) =)

Damn Tim... you've improved so much it amazes me. I remember when you were struggling to paint and color things. Now I think you have surpassed most of the folks who tried to guide you along. Great stuff. I'm jealous of your improvement. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Ah, my ISP is behaving again...
Anyway, like I said on ICQ, this is perhaps the finest work I have seen on Sijun in a LONG time. Truly outstanding work, an immense improvement on previous stuff. You hit the big time, bro. |

Yeah, it's some nice stuff. But Blitz, jesus. It's not the best stuff I've ever seen...you're getting there Rinaldo.
I prefer the sketches over the paintings...I agree the blue is amazing in the way you captured the really nice cast shadows and the volume. The sketches are really looking nice. You may want to work on simplifying the forms, however, rather than going over the faces/clothes multiple times - throw a line in and let it rest (similar to the goggled-pilot's body). Once you simplify down to the most basic forms and planes, then you can get your entire figure done in a short amount of time - and then build upon it. The little gremlin guy running to the left and looking backwards is a great example. Get the precision in each of your strokes before you even put the pencil to the paper. You've got a great style going on here, I'd just like to see it simplified even more - even missing edges to an extent (that are not needed, of course). You may want to experiment with this...let the eye fill in the detail. It'll save you time and keep your sketches bold. |

What I like best about your work here is the use of objects and their interaction with the environment. The bubbles in the first one and the lightning bugs in the second one. Very well done! |

These are fantastic Rinaldo! I love 'em.
I especially like the second one. The line work has amazing expression - it's hard to believe you got that from your pencil sketch - wow. The lighting and modelling are also very good in this one too. The only thing which needs comment is the fact that the mist on the right side shows up the telltale Photoshop brushmarks a lot more than the rest of the piece. It would be a hard balance to tone that down and still retain the freshness to the image though.
And I've also noticed that the, um ... bong in the first illustration has darks of greater intencity than the other objects on it's plane. This messes with the atmospheric perspective and depth perception somewhat. Apart from that though, it is fantastic. The floating bulbbles and the loose background work very nicely.
Keep it up, this is fantastic and I'm looking forward to seeing more. |

Heya dude! So much here that it is overwhelming. Love the sketches! About half way down, one of the images reminded me of the character that you drew in this colouring post of yours
http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum2/HTML/004912.html
It's interesting to note how much of a "cleaner" style that has developed.
Couple of comments on the images. In the first one, the flying creature in the background looks a little odd, almost as if it is hanging there and not very dynamic and fluid. In the blue one, while your shadows are cool, if you have a good look, they are a little off. Look at the shadow below the head, it almost looks as though the light is from above and not from the side (maybe I've missed the moon just outta shot).
It's good to see the bottom one as I saw a painted version of it several days ago and that was kinda cool. |
