Comment for Stneill777:
It looks good. I assume you used a photo as a reference. That's ok. But you could show that photo as well. I like the image, and i like Bruce Lee. But i think this image would look even better if you used only black and white instead of 2 grays inbetween. They just look awkward as it is now. Or you could use 1 grey and white.
Good work Stneil777.
Comment for Everybody else:
He's trying, can't you see? No need to give him evil remarks. |

I think the extra greys "dirty" the image- three values would be better (black, medium, white); black and white, like Henrik said, would probably be best. |

nickmarksdotcom LOL
this is so obvious .. hum maybe streamline ?
seriously, stneil777 where do you think you are ? this is an high leveled art forum ; people have tryed many things with the digital media; they can reveal anything wrong ; you have to deserve more respect to other people
and well if you really made by hand this image, where is the interest of tracing a photo in Illustrator ? take a look at Merekat 's vector art ; it s 10 miles away from just tracing a photo with the vector tools ... |

stneil777: Like someone said, there's no worries about using reference pics or photos. I often use reference photos but I try and say which publication(usually National Geographic or Sunday Telegraph or something) so that people can have a look at the reference and judge for themselves. Not much is actually learnt by close reference work. In the amber pic I posted, the wasp was from imagination though the amber and bubbles were done by referring to a photo to check how the light worked out on the bubbles.
Also, find some pics of Bruce Lee in different poses and try and paint him in a pose that you can't refer to directly. All the info is there, and don't be worried about getting features wrong, as that is what the more experienced members here are (usually) here to help with. |

How can you people just stay mature all the time, and stay nice to this guy. I think this is absolutely shameful.
Posting stuff like this is just disrespectful to the forum and its intentions. I hate this guy, I'm sorry. He's not even funny. ![](images/smiles/icon_mad.gif) |

That's not classified as three colour, if you actually printed this, it would only be 1 colour.
Critique:
1. The greys aren't necessary at all, strictly black/white would've been much more dynamic.
2. You have a lot of anchor points that overlap, giving you an awkward thin line, or loop...you should fix those because a) it looks amateurish and b) they sometimes make your illustration too complex to print properly. You should get in the habit of being able to get things ready for print.
Oh, and I don't normally post pics in other people's threads, but here's something vector I've done in illustrator, not in the same vein as yours, but maybe it'll help someone out. (Supposed to be Stephen King and John Lennon).
**I'll scrounge around for some of my vectorized-photo stuff, I'm sure I have a lot on my computer somewhere.
*** IMAGE REMOVED ***
Happy now, Stneil? Next time I try to open up your eyes to a new style, just kill me.

Well i am well pleased this time with the return of feed back, thanx guys. You gave some good advice. I liked the way it looked all black but it did not seem to bring the detail out that i wanted.
here it is all black

Stneil777: Yes I know it is not the same style, and I've told you that.
The key to understanding posts is you have to READ THEM.

Call what you did anything you want. Lie, tell the truth, knock yourself out.
The simple fact (and I stress the word Fact) is that you copied the basic Bruce Lee picture and did whatever you did (Filters, adjustment layers, trace, etc).
To prove my point you forgot that the actual picture does not contain Bruce's fingers on his right hand. AND, neither does yours.
The term Fraud comes to mind. |

it s more than tracing the pic you have to change the levels in photoshop before tracing in flash I use it very often to change a video in a 2 colors one for a flash movie ...
have to admit yours is looking really better ; which parameters did you used ? ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

scoop i took what you said i just did not see the point of showing a simple cartoon.
I mean it is a totally different subject matter correct?
Or maybe i am miss understanding what you were trying to say, sorry.
ok for those that do not know, flash has an option you can hit a button and it turns a jpg image in vector it is called trace bitmap. It can do a decent job sometimes. if you have flash put this photo into the trace bitmap option, you will see that is not the case.
Dr. Bang i said i did not trace bitmap option. Of course the picture came from the photo. Of course it looks just like the photo. That was the whole point. I was not trying to come up with something origonal. I was tryingt to reproduce the photo in a different style.
You guys are so complecated sometimes. Does art have to come out of your head to be art?
Question is photo minipulation art? |

Then after being caught, you said
"I was tryingt to reproduce the photo in a different style."
"Question is photo minipulation art?"
blah blah blah blah

I think you are Miss Misunderstanding, and I also think it's a shame you can't even use and type your own language properly.
Using trace bitmap in Flash is just ONE press on the button. Many members on this board are working at least more than 5 hours on one piece and then post it.
I hate the fact that you get more replies than all these beginners get, and you get it with posting rubbish!!!
