Welcome aboard. The textures are nice and clean and smooth, but I have to ask if this is a layer trace in PhotoShop? They line up almost perfectly. If so, you'll quickly discover that can be frowned upon in this forum. If not, I'll shut my mouth and get back to work...

Later.

is that accually what you did.
you just smudged it up?
I thought you accually just paited it uses this as an under layer.

you know in the old days artist like michael angelo would cast the image with a light projector to there canvase. People here would hang them for that. But yet i bet everyone here loves those artist lol. So if you accually did just put this on another layer and dimmed it. Then on a new layer painted your own, i am not sure why they frown on that. When great artist basically did the same thing. A mistery i might never understand, O well.

allthough i agree that tracing/smudging is not a good way to make a painting, i'm glad that you posted the original, and admited that you did that. i think that we wouldn't have so much of a problem with stneil, if he would just admit that he traces most of his pictures, and realize that its frowned upon here.
for now, i believe that you weren't trying to decieve us. but ignorance only takes you so far.

Lukias...along with making light projectors, Leonardo, Donatello, Michaelangelo and Raphael perfected their ninja skills under the watchful eye of a painter named Splinter.

Hm, I come to stneil's defence with this link. I'd hate to let stnail's genius go unnoticed.

As for the paint-over... Perv.

well i can honestly say that trace/smudge or any filter is definitely not a cool thing to do...an ive seen a few people get "verbally raped" over this stuff...i guess people will never learn :-(

on a slightly happier note....ive always been a fan of boxes

specially light tight boxes.......

muhahahaha!!!

I actually use a projector. But, and I mean BUT!, I only use it to enlarge my drawings so I can paint them on larger canvas.

It takes so much time to set up the grid and copy each square.

Also, for me it is really hard to keep proportions correct when drawing on say a 24x36 canvas. I normally draw my layout sketch on paper @ 8.5x11 or 11x17 then transfer the drawing to canvas.

That's my 2.8234 cents.

Phil

Many artists have used these devices. That fact has little to do with the value of the work.

Why does the procedure used make an image make a difference in the perceived quality?

Fallen, suppose it had not been smudged/traced etc. I feel your work is miles beyond it.

I guess what I am trying to say is duplicating a photo, even "freehand" is a very simple thing. It just does not matter how it was done. If Bill W. had simply posted the jpeg and presented it as is, well, it is what it is. Judge it as that.

Is it drawn from a reference? If yes maybe you could post some steps to show.
