Those are really cool. That first one has some serious chromatic aberations, or maybe its CCD blooming? (the purple fringes of the bright areas).
That second one is great. Reminds me of being a kid and going on 'adventures' in the industrial park area near where a friend of mine lived. It was fairly easy to avoid detection from people, but those dogs where another story.
There is a water treatment facility behind one of the high schools I went to. We went on a tour of the place once. I wanted to see if I can get back in there now that I have a digital camera because the inside was very cool looking. |

Cool. I was hoping you were going to post more and thanks again, waylon. These are great reference photos. You were probably yelled off site due to your need of a haircut...

Gimbal: Yeah, I noticed the purpleness too. (How could I not? ) Do you know of any good way to avoid that, aside from not taking such high-contrast pictures?
Everyone else: Thanks! I hope the pictures come in useful. And if you have any photos like these, feel free to post them here.... |

I occurs on my camera too, but usually only if I'm zoomed all the way out (388mm). I don't fully recall the difference between what causes chromatic aberations and CCD blooming but I know I read about it somewhere on a digicam site when i was researching cameras. Avoiding those kinds of lighting conditions is probably your best bet. My very first
pic with my camera had this problem (Notice the purple on thte lit portions of the leaf and the read glow around the tranparent parts of the moths wing). This was taken at full zoom in macro mode (I was about 6 feet away from the moth). The problem is rare though so hopefully you won't see it turn up often. If it does try playing with the metering options if your camera has them. I only have one other picture with this problem being noticable.
The strangist thing I've seen is I have several pictures of this saddleback caterpilar. Each of them has this funny looking glow on the four stinging portrusions of its body, like when Godzilla is charging up ready to fire. Was the camera picking up UV that other animals or bugs can see? I don't know, but it is really freaky looking. |

Howdy, folks. Well, it's been a while, but I finally got some more photos online. And now I have a much spiffier digital camera, so the pictures are nice and high-rez (2048x1536)
Anyway, feel free to use these photos as reference, for photomanip, or for whatever else you like. Just make sure to give credit where credit is due. (And post the finished piece here!)

And a couple of samples...
The new photos are in galleries 3 and 4. Most of them are from earlier this spring. I was going to go take some more pictures this morning, but I only got a few before some guy yelled at me to leave. So I'm gonna go back this weekend. Hopefully I'll have another update at the beginning of next week.
Enjoy! |

What's interesting, is while I was wandering around one of the buildings, I found a phonebook from 1984. Before that, I thought these factories were closed back in the 50s... |

Hey Homie, those are sweet. In fact, they rot my teeth.
I was taking a lot of pictures like this (not as nice) after I got my camera and had quite a few on my hard drive before it crashed and I losted them all. Thanks. |

Wow, that was the first pic you took with your camera? My first picture was of my foot. |
