Yay for drugs! :P .. Sigh. Today's youth is so corrupt.

Heh, but as far as "bongs" go, I reckon that's very nice bong you got there.

Back to drinking my milk.

I personally dont like this at all.

-the landscape looks too much like it was done in bryce.

-the glass in the bong looks too smooth.. unnatural. even thesmoothest glass has imperfections that make reflections ripple.

-the clouds look thrown-in and tilted weird.

-overall its a boring composition. I wouldnt put this on my desktop even if I didnt disagree with drugs so much.

- and the big mj leaf in the sky looks out of place, aside from the fact that its in the sky.

Ouch, this was his first post. With this response, it might be his last. WHD, there's definitely been worse on this forum. Have a little compassion at least until you know more about the artist and his experience and motivations.

Personally, I don't want to see 3d art from someone who can't draw, or hasn't proven they can draw. Regardless the subject matter, things like composition, lighting, and color design skills are most important to have. It is obvious that you have not been trained in any of these. I'd much rather see your attempts with pencil and paper, even if they are 100x worse then your 3d work. They would show your strengths and weaknesses in which you can transfer and eliminate in your 3d work at a later point.

William H. Daniels and Briareos;

I concur whole heartedly; That's why I haven't made the foray into 3D (which I desperately want to) yet -- I don't feel as if I have enough experience. Programs like Poser and Bryce make me angry because it allows idiots to get into the field. That's how I feel about computers and other electronics; Once it becomes "consumer" friendly, it no longer takes skill to learn to use it. (={

stneil777, yea, point-and-click mountains are pretty hard to model.

I'm sure that I'd never be able to figure out a program like Bryce with my 8 years of AutoCAD, 4 years of MAX, and 3 years of Lightwave experience. Bryce is just beyond my mediocre level of understanding.

I apologize for that brief stint of arrogance, but it was purely to prove a point. That point being: don't open your mouth unless you can back it up with fact.

I am not fond of the subject matter.

I like the image for what I see.

The glass is unnatural, but I like it.

The mountains are cool looking (I do not understand the 'too wet' opinion, but wh cares).

Is this perhaps the real reason why Metacreations went under? Maybe that was their punishment for creating the "make art" button.

This is exactly what I've been talking about. Do engineers and doctors have this problem? No. Secretaries don't find programs on the net that allow them to whip up a few kidney transplants on their lunch break. I'm convinced that computers are the best and worst thing ever to happen to art and design.

Provotroll: I could spend about 15 minutes in Bryce and duplicate this "composition" down to the fractal clouds and the mercury water. Granted, you had to line up some booleans to make the bong, and it probably took a few minutes to scan and alpha the pot, but is this really something you want to share with the world? The only thing you've proven is that you didn't lurk <quite> long enough to get the feel of this forum. Look around at the quality of work posted here. Look at the pieces posted by Issric, Spooge Demon, Steven Stahlberg, Dhabih and the rest. I'm a professional artist with years of experience with both traditional and digital media, and I don't consider most of my limited output worthy of sharing web-space with these guys (and gals). The quality, and dare I say, the subject matter, of your image show a general disrespect for Dhabih and the community he has tried to create here.

It's a ship from the planet Cannabis. They have just stopped on earth to place one of their giant bongs. These bongs will be used by the spaced-out colonist who have been leaving in waves from Cannabis after a catastrophic event that they call "The Munchies" left them with no natural resources on their home planet. This advance ship is preparing planets for colonization.

See, I do have a sense of humor.

I like Provotroll... He took all of this lightly and listened to what everyone had to say. He even regarded the most inane of comments of respect. Kudos to you. Oh, but I really dislike this picture due mostly to the cliche subject matter. Everyone is doing this type of art, so try something new, eh?
ps. I'm sorry if you live in Provo-- It is hotter then Hell there.

Deepest apy-polly-loggies, Provotroll. I'd had a hard day and was hung over from a company party.

I can tell you that this pic will get loads of accolades over at Renderosity. Try posting it there. More weed and more Bryce.

Well, aside from getting bombarded by these guys, I assume you would post on an art forum if you werent interested. So here are a few tips. Dont post blatant work that have unoriginal links to drugs. A psychadelic scene or the dark dreary world of herion addict are all good. A bong and a pot leaf simply lose respect from the forum users. Bryce is a dreadful program and what can be done in bryce can be done in Max in 1/10th the time. So practice some more with Max.

*looks for rock*

*no rock to be found so one needs to be made, time to learn Bryce*

...5 seconds later...

*hops up onto newly created little rock and then jumps from it*

That wasn't so bad. Why was I jumping from rocks again?

Hey man, you said give feedback. I only responded accordingly. Nothing personal, but if its a fun/funny image, post it in random musings. If its a serious piece you have finished or having trouble with, post here. Pretty simple. Im sure all of us would like to see some of your more involved work! Post it, we'll give it a fair hearing.
