I've worked on this picture for a couple of days. I tried a new method out for this one. started out in rhino and modeled some simple buildings then just started to draw in photoshop (this way I don't have to do all the perspective).
Unfortuantly I hurt my finger while slamming the door, so I haven't been able to finish it

Here is a zoom:

And the render:

Do you think its cheating not to draw the perspective and shadows yourself?

Please give me some crit!

I think you did a brilliant job on the buildings. Great textures, very good addition of fog. Wonderful atmosphere.

The zeppellin and the red balloon look too perfect, though. I think it's because you couldn't finish them. I hope your accident wasn't too bad so you can finish this great picture.

Oh, and I don't mind the pre-rendering method at all. I know how much it helps with complex architecture. I don't consider it cheating either. After all, it's the result that counts.

Beautiful and realistic looking. The moss and cracks in the wall are a nice touch. I don't want to point out anything bad since it isn't finished. It reminds me of Dinotopia, have you ever read it? Very beautiful fantasy pictures of cities and things like this one.

Hey Zulu
Lookin mighty fine. Like Dr. Bang suggested you might want to finetune the light sourcing. The buildings in the background are looking very flat. Put some simple shading in that and they will look far more believable. Looking forward to see development on this one. Keep it up!

Nice work!

It's interesting to see how well you translated the rendered image into a painting... It sure saves a lot of work with construction if you're a fast modeler.
I like the architecture a lot... very stylish.
And... come on, Ignore the pain and finish this.... It just begs to be finished!

(BooMStick har ret i, at det er godt at se en landsmand her... )

Oops... I forgot to say that I don't see this approach as "cheating"... If it gets your illustration in the direction that you wish...
You are only cheating yourself, if you wan't to be able to draw correct shadows and perspective... If not then it's a great way of getting your vision out... And that's the important part.... Isn't it????

Yeah Neato! Shame about your finger though, this would be even more wonderful had you had the time to 'really' finish it!

Hey!
Thanks for all the comments and remarks.

+5: I agree with the ballon remarks, Thats a must fix prob.

Sharga: Tnx for your comments, I must look up Dinotopia sounds cool.

dr.bang: The lightsource should be a bit behind the view and up high. I've found some bugs though that I'd like to correct.

Briareos: I argued that since it 95% complete I'd post it here, don't know if its legal or not

Gavin Greaves:

BooMSticK: Nice comment it makes sense to me and I'll take your advice. Mange tak

Ko: Yeah, it really saves time to render the perspective instead of the usual vanishing point stuff I normaly do. However I would like to learn how to draw realistic shadows so for the future I think I'll stick to wireframe rendering. Ignore the pain! Right now I'm waiting for my fingernail to fall of P slaget 12

Trixy: I'm glad you like it! I'll post the finished work once I get it done.

Tnx for your time!
