Actually I think it's pretty good for a new artist. Some of you noticed it was Gwen right away. Even though it dosen't look like her 100% you did realize it was her. Art is a type of thing you have to take one step at a time.
Opticalshock, If you thought the people at SIJUN were asses why did you post? It dosent feel like you gave the Sijun community a chance when you just posted with angry faces all over your post. As for your request not to be critiqued, I think that is up to you. If you want advice than you can decide when you want it. It was not right of some people to blame you for things, and even though they sounded like asses some of them can really help you out when the time comes. I'm not saying to give Sijun another chance, but don't judge the same way you didn't want to be judged.
Ok I'll stop talking crap and go back to drawing.

I like traffic lights. I like traffic lights. I like traffic ligtts. especially when they are....
a. gallery should be for finished. if you want further crit. state:
"Crits...comments...opinions...like...dislike...lighting?.. etc."
b. Work in progress should go in Work in progress.
Someone once said that the gallery gets more traffic. Sure we all want to go and see cool stuff. I can see why some people have started posting unfinished work in the gallery forum, so it will be seen. I myself am disapointed when I have posted and had no replies. Trust me when I say you can learn more from criting someone elses work, and seeing how the progress is made than looking at finished work all the time. Like Steven Stalhberg and his threads in the WORK IN PROGRESS forum (sorry steven for using you as an example)
Let us all visit BOTH forums and contribute to others and ourselves.

The weird thing is...is that I agree
with everyone (to some degree). I don't think
anyone should post here and demand their art not be critiqued. Yet,I often see very "crule" remarks about artwork. Example: Ko: the mouth looks pasted on. Myself: she has no ears. Shamhead: no nostrils.
I happen to agree with the three of you. She needs nostrils, ears would be nice, and the mouth does look "pasted on". I know you guy are busting balls because Optical demanded not to be critiqued...But sometimes, artists post here and their work isn't very good, (due to either lack of talent or experience with the software program they are using), and the are ripped to shreds. I think a better approach would to have said: the lips are a nice shape, but you need to work on shadows so the lips don't look pasted on. Or, the nose would look more realistic if you put in shadow and nostrils etc....THIS IS CALLED CONSTRUCTINE
CRIT'S. Don't just tell an artist whats wrong with the work...offer some helpful suggestions |

The thing is, if you don't want any critique, you have to ask yourself why you are posting here in the first place?
There is a small group of people who post to these boards that are sufficiently good that people actually enjoy just looking at their paintings, but obviously if you're new this isn't likely to be the case. So if you don't want any critique, and you aren't posting for our viewing pleasure, the onle possible reason you could have would be to recieve praise? seems strange to me
and as for complaining about an entire open forum of 4000+ members as 'you guys' after you read 3 posts, that's just plain stupid |

Wow! This thread has gone way too far.
Lots and lots of crits about the art and
the maker.
...thinks...thinks....
Aw! I give up, can't give any constructive
advice/replys.
...ok,then. Bye bye then...

I agree with..whats his face up there who was talking about that thing and agreeing with her about how he did that thing and then whats his name started talking about that other person who just started going off about how that one dude just totaly riped off that chicks same name. HU?
Neat pic, I like the eyes.
Joining big ass conversation now..
Id agree with Tiger Eaten, I think it was simply the tact in which he started out with...if you are proud of your pic...and you have no reason not to be...then why pick a MAD face to show your joy.
It almost seemed like a setup so you could get pissed at everyone. probably worng...but it s my opinion.
Cheers all |

I agree.
... what was the original purpose of this post? Even syaing "oh I like that" is a crit. So why show us all a pic and expect no response?
Sheesh. End of story. |

Hahahahah! You're so quick to judge. By your second (!) post you'd made up your mind completely about the entire community by a purposefully brash comment made by yours truly.
You really are a chump, chump.
danyi, I didn't TELL him he embossed the hair, I asked. There is a question mark behind that one. |

Maybe I'm a masochist, but I love hard crits. I mean crits that leave you feeling reamed. Contructive crits, mind you. But hard ones.
It makes me feel bad in the short term, but then I realize they were right, and I get better for it.
I dunno. Telling people not to crit your stuff is going to create that weird, internet, reverse psychology animosity thing. You should have just posted it without that comment, and ignored the crits.
Even Spooge gets the occasional crit when he posts, so don't worry. |

~ Catnip, very well said, indeed... and I agree!! I have been a registered member of sijun for almost a year now. But I can see whats meant by rude crits being tossed around to new artists that may feel proud of thier artwork. Only to post it here & feel shattered by insults and rude remarks about something that they either worked VERY hard on, and consider a masterpiece in thier eyes. I just don't find it fair.
I have seen it happen alot. As a result of this kind of treatment, I have been seriously reluctant in posting any of MY images, in fear that this same thing would happen to me... (however, I would not post anything quite as aggresive as opticalshock did.. when he said not to crit him.)
.... and from reading this thread, it will probably be even longer before I am really comfortable posting my image now.
What I am getting at... negetivity and harsh words are uncalled for. Lets be optimisitic towards one another and offer help to each fellow artist.
Such shared coldness holds back others from feeling comfortable in becoming part of this community of artists |

OPTICAL SHOCK..........
I guess i can honestly say that no matter where you go or what you do....your going to be critqued on almost everything PUBLIC you show...and the key word there is in fact, PUBLIC!...especially in ANY art field/hobby you choose to pursue...lose the little pussy temper...dry those little teary eyes...grow up and hit puberty.... "crits" are a part of life...stop being a little bitch about it...who knows...something good normally comes out of crits, and IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE CRITIQUED....then obviously dont post your public work here...go somewhere private in a little corner, invite some friends over drink some beers and you can all huddle around your computer screen and remark in unison...wooooooooooooooo!....then you can get your personal art chubby over it....good day.....byaaaaatch!! null |

i agree with jezebel.
people who dont respect other people are why this forum is going to hell ...
But still i mean the forum is a learning place where artists can learn and better them selves....
all this fighting make me feel like some more stneil bashing.
