Hi!

I worked real hard on this one, the lips looks kinda feminine to me, don't know how to make it more manly. Please critique on this one, i need to know everything that is wrong with this picture. Thanks

You improved a lot!!! Began to use living models??? Thats always good...

There are only a few minor mistakes, but you wanted to know:
One of the reasons why the man looks so girly may be the red lips - normally skin- and lip-color don't tend to differ so much. The eyes still look a bit flat - don't forget about them as objects that cast shadows (including eyelids). The neck/throat looks a bit bony - tip: Feed your model! *g*
And last but nocht least: The hair ... I know it's hard, but doesn't look like a undefined mass - it consists of single strands - and also reflects light. Just look at some other members to find out (ENAYLAs tutorial!)

Somebody discovered the indirect light ... ... Well done.
Go on practicing like this!

I agree with most everything everyone has said. Most importantly the lips and the nose. At the risk of... well... uhh... stuff. I give you my lips! For refrence use only! LOL! Here ya go:

It's not how long you practice, but how deep. One can draw the same thing for days, weeks, months - without learning something.
Aim to give yourself a concret simple problem, which has to be mastered. For example: "Today I have to find out about the shading of the nose in different lights." So concentrate on the thing you want to find out and forget about the rest (you can do this later). You could paint single noses for the hole day, exterminate every bug that bothers you. On the next day you can use the things you worked out to go on with your next exercise.

The whole thing will be easier if you start to use models or try foto-references (for a while). Or the wonderful tip Spooge gave us: Use a plaster cast of somebodys face (don't spend money on this, you can easily build one by yourself). You also don't need to pay for a model - thats a perfect job for your friends, relatives or people you don't even know (sketching people in the pedestrian precinct for example forces you to seize quickly and is always very funny *g*). Or last but not least: There is still a thing called mirror.

The most important thing is the following: Technique isn't everything. Insipration is much more important for your personal development. The greatest skills are nothing without an idea to express. Just look for a deep, true experience in your mind and the rest will come by itself.

[Sorry for this endless speech ... btw: I didn't post very much until now, thats why I still remember most of my comments.]

I think it's pretty good apart from the red lips. But I also think the red lips give some character to the picture...
