Working on a cover for my comic....thought a nice freaky collage would symobolize the insanity of my main character. Feedback please...and for extra point find WALDO!!!
p.s. Art puts in your face things that you don't always want to see. It is your job to ask yourself why you don't want to see it.

Disgusting!! So many little pics which disturb and disgust and you wanna look away, but you can't. You wanna see what's on the other 1000 pics and you look at the bottom, then at the top and ... i hate to look at it, but i can't take my eyes away. For that what you wanted to do, it is great!!

Easy, I don't want to look at it because it's disgusting.
Pretty tasteless, but I suppose that's what you were going for, so um.. yeah. |

what is this for? What could the comic be about that it would justify this? (I seriously would like to know, I'm not trying to attack you with the question).
But really, aren't there other ways to accomplish this feeling WITHOUT presenting the most sad, disturbing, scariest people and dieseases? In my opinion (and that's just mine) these dumptruck loads of horrible material are affective, but it shows a lot o talent to present the same feeling without the nastiness.
It IS well put together, but....*my soul shivers*.... |

it's fine, I don't think that these people are right about it being offensive, or I should say, it is offensive, but justifiably so within the context of your plot, and by showing disturbing things you will draw the reader into examining the mindset of those who enjoy those things. I don't know the sources of these images, though I imagine stile, rotten, and uglypeople are some of your sources, and since they rarely accredit the photographer or get permission from the victim, it may be in bad taste to use those images for entertainment purposes, but the content is not the reason I feel it shouldn't be used, just the lack of permission and potential disrespect to unwilling relations to the subjects. |

Its okay.
this pictures are just a part from our life.
I mean if people haveing problems looking at these babies i really have to ask myself from whitch plantet they are from. Most of these Babies look like these Vietnam victims from that poison stuff thrown over the vietnam jungle (it was against the leaves or something. The serial killers... well, there are some ppls on earth with some big problems. Since everyone tries to find a way to get rid of these Problems, they also search for Cure, just in a way which is not "normal". How ever iam in noway offended by these Pictures. This is a part of Human. Dont try to ignore it or closing your eyes it still exists. Think about what happened and learn from it, learn how you can help or what you must change so it wont happen in future.
However the cover is nothing special... it looks like 200 other covers. I dont even like it very much, compsing some images is nothing really special, maybe you should try to make it a bit more "insane". Just some images are not enough, this way your cover is sick but the rest? The other thing... what about indexed images? In some countries your comic wont show up because of your cover, even when u made an Mickey Mouse Comic.

actually if you have no problem looking at mutilated dead babies then probably I have to ask myself which planet you are from.
This might be just one proof how dull you can become if you see this all the time in the news.
on a side note: the tasteless part is that those victims or more their parents would surely be happy to see their beloved dead children on the cover of a comic.
if you don't find anything strange in this then please just don't reply.
we don't live on the same plane of existence then.. sorry

Vesuvius and mk are right.
Yes it's sad, but this happens and it's okay to show people.
My question is what does it really have to do with your comic? Just because you put your freaked out face on top doesn't make child deformaity the same thing as (or a symbol for) insanity. |

Ok, issues of taste aside, I think this cover may have some problems from the viewpoint of shelf presence. The color is fairly monotone and dull and there are no large elements to instantly hook the roving eye.
I may be wrong, the fact that it goes contrary to convention may help it stand out. The test - print it and trim it to the actual size, pop into your local comic store and put it amongst the others there. Then wonder around for a few minutes so you can get a fresh reaction from your eyes and go back to the area where you put it. See what covers your eyes are naturally drawn to, and if it's not your's ask yourself why - what does the other cover have that yours does not?
I hope this helps, and I like Waldo BTW, nice comical touch. |

Hah! Gotcha! No I couldn't find waldo, but I
looked at it a while and saw
that you had put 2 same pics in it.
(the chick with the "unbalanced boobies")
On the other hand, this IS different.
Red color gives it a lot of chaoss looking
atmosphere. The fonts kick ass, they're like
from a letter which the bad guys allways send
to the cops. The amount of the babies in this
is a bit too much. Maybe you should add
some adult corpses. Or then again if this
comic is about killing babies, then it's
ok.
And finally. This kinda art really provokes
emotions in all. (lot's of replies about
that.) But i'm not gonna give critic about
it. Just trying to see this in an artistic
way.
...the typing may not be right...sorry.. |

I would never pick up something that had a cover like that personally... whether it fits into your character profile or not. You can't tell what the comic is about judging by the cover, so I would be afraid to flip through it to find out for fear it would be about some creepy necrophilic pedophile fantasies. But that's just me, I can see some people would pick it up just because it DID have that stuff on the cover. But I don't think I'd want to be locked in a room with those who did
I agree with what some other people said about it being sorta inappropriate to use pictures of other people's children as a way to advertise your comic. These people probably don't want their children displayed in this way. I believe there is some very powerful imagery you could have put on the cover without resorting to diseased infants, personally I think that's kinda freaky that you actually went to a website looking for pictures like this. Does looking at these photos not bother you? I'm really not trying to bash here, I am genuinely curious... I know that I would not be able to sort through hundreds of pictures like these looking for the "best ones" and then sit for a couple of hours in photoshop carefully putting them together.

If one of those kids was yours would you still think it's okay? How do you think a parent would if their kid's autopsy photo was used as background for some comic book cover just for the sake of shock value? |

great cover! i agree that it wouldnt stand out enough on a stand. the title kinda fades off into the collage. need to punch it up a bit, throw annother colour in the mix or something... i dont understand the standpoint that its in bad taste, i dont see that. "if you were the kids mom"? what kind of hypothetical question is that? thats like: "what if you were a little girl? would you be grossed out?". its irellevant. use whatever you want for whatever purpose you want. moms dont read comics anyways. they just throw them out!

well.... personally.... i think... the dead babies dont show weirdness or chaos... i they even are dead... most arent... they dont always die cause they are deformed... i wouldnt pick up the comic because of the cover... sure its in your face, made you look kinda stuff... but most people would just scoff it and pass it on...
now for the artist critic... you re-used like 5 pictures so... i didnt like that...
i dunno
and im one personally for blood and gore in my pictures, but this doesnt apeal to me. id rather see like... maybe a dysected brain, lots of blood and pins stuck in it leading to pictures maybe of a less distastefull nature... how about just a fetus? hehe i dunno... just .. thinking

I think that most of you people just freak out about this stuff. Some people find this stuff disgusting, some find it interesting, some just think heh ahwell. I personally don't think to much about, I visit Stileproject.com and Other stuff like that (If you really wnat to know what I look at, here are my Links But non the less, I think most of you are way to sensitive to what really happens in the world. How do you know that the guy who did this and these pictures isn't a docter or wants to be one. You have to be desensetized to this stuff to survive in the medical world. How would you like it if you were in a huge motercycle accident and all of a sudden your docter and nurses start vomitting everywhere and fainting and you die because you didn't get any medical attention. Bah ram you people who are freaked out to easy. |

Okay, IQis222, totally diferent situations. doctors and public are not the same. It was said:
"on a side note: the tasteless part is that those victims or more their parents would surely be happy to see their beloved dead children on the cover of a comic."
Doctors and Nurses see those things behind CLOSED DOORS so they can handle it in real life. Average joe public, looks at the dead photos of Julian Morgan's (random name)lost child, and the only name for that is exploitation. When the news papers have a huge photo of a sobing mother, her children dead in a plane crash, that's similar because you'r profiting from another human beings pain. I think that's the essence of this image, profiting from other humans pain. I doubt NickMarksdotcom asked the parents of these children if he could make a collage to sell his comic. Do you? If so, I think you could really justify it. |

This type of shock tactic exploitation used to sell a comic shows very little imagination and a lot of bad taste. It's nothing new, but that still doesn't make it right. |

Your "quote say's: Art puts in your face things you don't want to see. It's your job
to ask yourself why you don't want to see it.
I don't want to look at my "bowel movements". Does this mean I have a closed mind or is it simply not art? I belive you stare at your
toilet paper after you wipe your ass.... and belive it is art. |
