I'm back again to the forum, after a long time without painting or drawing. I made a lot of stuff lately, and I'll post it soon. This image is one of my first tries on manga, and the first image I make using painter, so don't be bad with me

Hi again. No replies hey. It seems that if you are not well established and have a good reputation for you art, then you dont get any attention. Thats what Im here for, to help.. because I was new once too, and I still suck, but I know heaps of things that I try to share.
So.
First trys. Hard, and also first try with painter!
Cute-ish character. The rosy red cheeks are very good. I'm not really a fan of manga, so I don't now what to say there. I will commend you on the lines. It loks like you have the right idea there, the right direction. Your line thickness variation is a good sign that you know how to express form. Maybe some of the areas, the line needs to be different. It seems that in those few areas you have kind of sped through, and consequently only concetrated on more important areas, like the head. You need to consistently apply your line variation over the whole character. Go from extremely thin to thick. Just don't get stuck with a standard line thickness..
Ligting needs some work. It depends what you are going for, and it may be that manga is like a comic where you just kinda colour in the shapes.. that makes it look flat. If you want to give it more form and shape then you need to define a clear source of light, and work shadows and highlights onto your painting to describe the form in space. Your shadows under the legs.. they should be darker as you get closer to where the light is almost absent, which would be almost underneath the trousers. Just look at some shadows to see waht I mean.
Hope that helps... keep posting, keep working.. Stuff the people who will never help you. They'l never learn themsleves. I know that by helping others I learn myself. Yet a lot of people don't have the time, and therefore only go to the more popular threads. You can't blame them really, Heck I don't really have the time to do this myself.. but I try. |

I kind of like the character. I'm not sure about the white streak on his hair, but that's up to you. One thing that bothers me is his face. The cheek area and nose look like you just did one like across it. It would look better if it was sort of blended in. The picture looks pixalated. Not sure if its your doing or when you saved it. I would change the line thickness in some areas if it was up to me. One other thing. I know its a manga, but when I see the ones with more details and realistic lightings they always look so much better than the flatter images. Keep working. good job.
