Hey, I've posted here only a few times before, but I'll give the shpill. My name's Jaime, I'm a guy, I'm 15, I like to draw....

I was at a friends house who had a scanner, so I have a few drawings to show. I also included my first digital painting at the bottem. Its a few months old, and I've learned alot since then, but I figured I should post it anyways.

Anyways, critique and enjoy :-D

I also have some closeups of that last one, if anyone is interesting. It has alot of detail (good or bad, i donno)

I was told to make that pinky on the left hand going down, rather than up, and I agree. I'm just too lazy to struggle with it trying to get it right. But I totally agree. Perhapse I'll get over my laziness and patch him up some more.

You are fifteen years old? wtf? These are very good!

I hope you find the enthusiasm to keep on practicing and learning all the time. It is going to be hell sometimes, I know, but just don't give up.

(heh, sorry that I couldn't give crit this time)

thats, both of you. Those last three are without reference, and the first two were just 2 of the three drawings i have to do weekly for my art class at school. I'd like to buy an anatomy book so it doesnt take me hours of trial and error to get decent looking figures. Only problem is, parents will not let me (bodies are evil). pooo. oh well, college is coming.

For the love of all creatures big and small, keep doing what you are doing. If you are this good now and continue to progress you'll be doing great. But if you let things get in your way (which life will try real hard to do) and stop drawing/painting whatever, you'll end up regreting it.

Great stuff man.

These are good, and not just for a fifteen year old. I'm curious as to where you're from or what your background is that your parents consider bodies "evil." You definitely don't have to answer if you're uncomfortable talking about it or anything, I'm just being nosy. Anyway, I look forward to seeing you progress!

I dont plan on stopping my drawings and painting. Huh-uh, noway, never. I've already got the next few years slated out so I can do as much art as humanly possible and still be moderately well rounded person(meaning I dont completely ignore biology, nomatter how worthless it is).

Shahar--thank you, thank you, thank you. I'll treasure this forever. Now I can start learning some real anatomy. wohoo! cheers!

Tepox-nope, nothing at elfwood. I assure I didnt rip anyone. Two of those pictures are from life (people and dogs i know personally) and two are strictly from my head.

Sacre- the bit about bodies being evil was an exaggeration. Basically, my parents have this idea that all teenager's life goal is to be horny behind their backs, and they couldnt except the fact that I needed some anatomy reference strictly for learning to draw people (even clothed). The don't understand the fact that natural talent doesnt come attached with a complete blueprint of the body (well maybe they do, but they think 15 is too early to be studying the bodies of males and females). Basically, they dont want me be drawing things for lusty reasons. That was never my intention, but still...

Any crits?? more comments???

Heh.. There is not so much to crit in your work. They look just OK. But if you want to work with your colored pic more, you could make his shirt and the arms (+pants) a little bit sharper. that should do it!

Tepox--I agree. The shirt isnt right, and I appreciate the crit. I must say tho, I'm sick of that painting. 40 hours of expirementing (I was baiscally teaching myself as I went along--twas my first big photoshop painting) can do this too me. Grrr. I hate that thing. :-P

Thanks for the crits. I like to hear this sort of thing to know what not to do nextime.

My best and only advice
been on the forums for a long time now, since 99 or some crap...although I haven't really contributed too much work, should more often as well...

in any case Cicinimo !
Great sketches, but as for the digital work, you'll learn one main key factor!
the Burn and Highlight tool is very tricky, try to shade with transparencies of a darker shade of the original colour your using.

for example, if your using a mid brown on the guys arm. Use darker browns, and paint over the areas...shadowy areas you must use very dark browns, almost blacks...and for the lighter areas use light brown or start getting into the orange/red/skin tone colours.

Stay away from the highlights, just use lighter tones and different colours to give it a nice overall feel.

Its all practice I guess, but you'll see what I mean. I think everybody has their own taste, but i've never seen alot of works that are totally good using the burn and dodge tool, or whatever they are called

NOT UP YET my artworkAnthony

Really impressive for 15! I wish I was were you are at that age.

Rest assured (well your parents anyway) that you can make a living at this. If you want. Because my parents and I thought that you could not, I stopped all art from 18 to 23, years I really wish I could have those years back now. Don't let them get away.

Your parents should lighten up. Teens are often drawing from the model, with no ill effects for anyone concerned. I remember the first time I saw a naked woman in a studio was a mind bender, but that lasted 15 seconds and then it was off to work.

If you want, have your parents email me (click on my profile to get address) and I will... straighten them out...

Thanks bunches for the tips Anthony. I'm gathering that burning and dodging isnt always the best way to go from you, and others. The picture I'm coloring right now is moving away from the greys and whites, and I think shows some improvement (I didnt burn and dodge so much here). I'll be able to show you soon, and you can tell me if its what you mean.

Thankee JasonM. =)

And thank-you Spooge, it means alot. As for my parents, its a sensative matter right now, and while you emailing them would probably solve it, I think I need to wait it out. But I promise you not to waste these next few years. Noway.

Any more crits and comments greatly appreciated. I love getting some feedback.

Wow, thats very good.
I especially like the clown sketch.
And I dont think you have to buy any anatomy book at all if youre afraid of your parents seing them, thinking its porno or something
There are plenty of sites on the net which have anatomy tutorials etc.
The loomis project is one of the best Ive seen this far: http://www.antsin3d.com/loomis/

Looks like the thread was ressurected . I'll respond to each, like I've been doing:

Freddio: wow, niiiice pics. You've got your lighting down? You have a tablet? Thats something I'd really like (and a scanner) After I finish up with the thing I'm doing now (I'll post it soon, its pretty cool), Im gonna mess with working from references and workin gon my colors.

Returner: Thankyou. The clown is my personal favorite as well.

FFNex: I agree.

Capt: Me or Fredio?? If me--thankee.

Ceenda. haha. thanks.

More comments if anyone feels like it? I love feedback (I think Ive said that), posative negative, critical--whatever. Helps me improve.
