Enayla-Jezebel inspired princess thingy.

I am trying to slow down with the drawing, but i need to do several thousand more heads before my judgement is better. Too much here, a little overcooked there, nothing with that, feels wrong, etc.

Hey Spooge great pic. I love your reflected light.. thats cool. your lighting really creates such a cool atmosphere. I love it. You can really get into your paintings and they really tweak your imagination.

I hope your still working on star wars

Also you always seem to post around 8:30 Australian time. Your a late worker?

and just which "Australian time" is that Fred?

Looks great. Very smooth, neat face etc, light is marvelous as always. You do some long necks though spooge. What other "problems" you might see aren't glaring to the likes of moi.

cheers

Craig, awesome work. I've always been interested in learning human potrait and never been good at it. I've been praticing drawing human potrait constantly since last year and here's the result

http://www.sijun.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=5&t=002974

Please craig, take a look,

I'm kinda tired of spending 1 year praticing on human potrait and don't get much better.

Nice one spooge. This one looks your best yet for portraits. Did you use any reference for this one? The strokes of light beneath her left eye (our right) seems to be too concentrated to me. I would think it needs to be a little more subtle or wider spread. It looks as though the umm.. "teardrop gland" is swollen right now.

I do like her face, but she seems to be missing some 'angle' or detail around the left side of her mouth. You've added some harsh sun lighting on her skin, but there is a lack of bounce light from her hood (I think) to her chin/cheek areas. I also find the sky strange, pulling on purple and rather uniformely dark compared to the extreme sunny conditions the girl is under.

Just my 2 cents.

She's beautiful. I really like the headpiece she is wearing as well as the leaves above her head. I think I have to agree with Frost about the bg seeming a tad out of place... even though I didn't notice until he brought it up Oh yeah, and I hate to bring it up again but I never heard back from you about my website. Do you need me to re-send the e-mail?

Beth

[edit: Just thought I'd add that I don't know how the heck I inspired you but I'm certainly glad I did... However that may have been ]

Gorgeous, Craig.

That little bit of lavender at the tip of her nose adds so much. Lovely painting. Remember a while back I was asking, "Where are Craig's women pics?" You just made me very happy.

She's hiding under a parade float until her entourage leaves so that she can run of with a dangerous pirate because her life is so boring.

Ungh, at first when I saw the topic I was instantly thinking about an action filled orcish fight scene but my expectations were horribly failed when I saw the picture: a beautiful lady!

Well, colour and values seems to be typical 'spoogish' quality (=exxellende). They're just beautiful.

However, something bothers me about the eyes, are they lined up? Is the perspective correct on her left eye? I get the feeling that she's cross eyed (her left eye is looking slightly up). Also, her lower lip seems "fat".

Ok, maybe I'm seeing things, again, but I wanted to say more than "WHOA!" for a change. Ok, that's all.

.. no, wait, is her left cheekbone lower than the right? Ok, I'll stop now.

Ooh, I like this a lot. I've been looking at it for a while trying to see if I can find anything to crit(besides what was already mentioned), but I can't. Her neck does seem a tad long, but some people have long necks

What a wonderful presence she gives off. A women of power I think!

I must say you handled all the intense lighting very well Spooge. You sure work hard at improving your art skills.

Well there's nothing that you could do to DRASTICALLY make it better. Everything from here on out would be nitpicking, but I get the impression that that is what you want us to do.

So let the nitpicking begin. I know I am going to get flamed BIG time for this, but.. *DEEP BREATH* here goes. . .

You might add a slightly darker value across the cheek bone in shadow (much as you would see on a cylendar) to further seperate the reflected light from below as well as the triangular frontal plane under her eye and at the same time emphasize her facial structure a bit more.

Adding a darker value at the side of her nostril could help a little and then a slightly lighter value at the side of the ball above it.

Her lips seem to be a bit too close in value given the main and reflective lighting you have. Also the lower lip having two bumps (barely noticeble in most lighting conditions) I belive would be fairly prominate here as the light skips across the surface. Capturing this, I believe would bring out the palpability of her lips a bit more. The same would be true of the indentation between her nose and red of the lip.

And lastley, I think the ear could be angled twards us a bit more (yet the angle of the ear-ring is perfect).

I some small part of this helps. But at the risk of echoing everyone else, I think it's a great piece that I would be proud to have in my portfolio.

oh, that's a beauty spooge. She looks stunning. And, I don't personally think there's nothing wrong with the anatomy that bothers the eye at all.
Only nitpicking things in my opinion (I feel silly mentioning this since it doesn't really matter for the picture) but since you are so devoted to improve on that sort of things lately, I guess it won't hurt. the left (from our view) part of the lip, as frost mentioned, looks a bit like the upper part of the lip goes a bit to much down, maybe you should see more of the underlip meeting the upper lip ? also the ear, it seem a bit to far behind, almost as if it would come out of her neck. maybe you could mark the transition between head and ear a bit more ? ....-but this is infact nitpicking and I don't think you should pay attention to it because the proportions and life in the picture is excellent, me thinks.

Pretty. Face looks kind of flat. Sharp, too. JUST a little. Like the nose. Anyhow, painting looser really ought to do some amazing things for your art--as long as we don't critique it to death. I like the method used to suggest ringlets or golden thread on her bodice.
