Very cool Francis. But that pic is sooo small... I'm kinda an image quality buff, and I'd love to see a higher quality version. Any chance you can post one? |

I don't know if I can post the original in a large format yet. The Rifts guys haven't actually released the cards yet, only the small image on their site that I posted above. Once the cards come out, I will go ahead and post the other pieces as well.
Kaiju, what book are you working on? I don't think I heard about it yet.
Waldo, I really appreciate that. I still feel like I have much to learn, and I'm paranoid that I will tell someone something that is not correct. I think at this point the furthest I am willing to go in that direction is specific feedback on different art and design forums. But thank you, much appreciated. |

Here's a thing Fred Flickstone (Ron Lemen) and I collaborated on for a collectible card game called Rifts. I've included a little detail shot at full res.
On the page where the art appears, only Fred gets the credit. It was technically his assignment, so that's OK.

On this piece, Fred did the base line art, I painted it to about 90% or so, and then he added the last layer of paint. In the closeup you can see the color palette I was using before he made the final adjustments.

You guys suck!! (I mean that in a good way) I loved the Rifts RPG and always wanted to do art for their books. This looks pretty sweet, but it is begging for some shineyness. The "Coalition" used the skull insignia and shiney black armor for intimidation. Did you have any references to go from? If you saw the old Kevin Long drawings you would know what I mean by shiney. Great stuff regardless. Can you post a larger version?
Hey tell Ron I got a colorist gig on a great book if he hasn't heard the news yet.

Francis,
Do you have an interest in or are you teaching at all such as your cohort? Can be a demanding challenge, but your skills and knowledge would benefit many. |

So few replies???? I really like the shading and the design of the character. The flying shells are bent wierdly, you propably tried to add motion and it looked good in the drawing(?) but when you coloured them the shape became too noticiable.. don't get me wrong, I like everything else in this pic.
Btw. Say hello to Ron and make him post some drawings =) |

Francis: I'm working on a new bi-monthly comic. Everything is still hush hush about the creative team and title till a few more weeks. The book will most likely be published by Image or CliffHanger. We are waiting to see who gives us the best offer. |

the left eye on the robot dude (his right) gets completely painted out cus the light is so bright that it erases the detail... hmm something to remember |

Actually I think the area where a "right eye" would be is blank because there isn't an eye there. There is no eye there because there is no eye there.. make sense? Otherwise you would still see an outline of the form.. bright light or not. Also, the blast is too far away to generate an extreme light that would hide features. |

Yah, what he said. No left eye.
Glad you guys like it otherwise. The bullets probably could use more of a blur effect - rendering it so sharply does kind of take away from the sense that they are flying at you. |

RIFTS is known for cyborgs, cybernetics, and power armors. I think this is supposed to be a cyborg. I haven't looked at the books lately. So, stop nitpicking hehehehe.
