This looks really, really cool. Do you have the original line art up somewhere for showing? I think the coloring is a bit too.. something... I'm not quite sure what. Maybe you need a more defined light source? Some of the areas seem to run together around his face/neck/chect area because it's all shaded the same way. The character design is really badass though... he could kick my booty I'd love to see the original lines.

Jezebel...

WOW that was quick response! Awesome..thanks for the comments..in general I am trying to improve my painting..I've been drawing much longer than I've been painting..and seeing your work, I could learn a lot from you! Awesome dragon you did...yep I think I have too much black in the painting, plus you're right about the stuff being rendered too uniformly..great feedback.

Here's the OG line art.

Take care,

NukleoN

If I have time (and you didn't mind) I might be interested in coloring this. It's a really great drawing

Hi Jezebel...

Ah hey you know I've had peeps tell me I should make a coloring book! HAhaha...yeah if you want to paint it, be my guest. I'd love to see what you do with it...do you paint traditionally or digitally? Hey if I can't tell that is a good thing either way right?

Take care...

Hi Jezebel...what do you use? I use Painter 5.03 with a Wacom Intuous Tablet, 6 x 8. In fact both the pieces I posted here were done in Painter from scratch.

Look, a sig pic! Haha...and they said we couldn't have IMG UBB codes in our sig haha.

I really don't understand. Those paintings of NukleoN are AWESOME and so few replies?? I really try to achieve that. How long have you been painting already? How long did the lineart take you? Colouring looks cool as well. I mean, so big and brutish. Just like they told me to do in the other thread.
2 points of critique tho.
1. his lower leg looks a bit too brutish in my humble opinion.
2. your poses are very static. Maybe you try some perspective stuff. That maybe would be a new challenge as concept designer... no?

Keep posting please =)

Hm you've mentioned Blizzard a few times..so like do you work at Blizzard? Nice pic btw, although I think you could've used more desaturated colors & more color variation in the skin.

S4SB: Hey thanks for the comments and crits! You're right about the poses..that's something I have been thinking I need to improve as well...so the next pic I post with figures will have much better poses. Of course, normally you wouldn't put a character concept on different poses because you just want to see information, but if it supposed to be a character in action, yeah then it would make sense to use a dynamic pose.

I like his big, powerful lower legs.

Binke: I sort of like saturated colors, especially since my lines get so thick in places. However..the skin variation..yeah totally I could work more of that in. Reds, Blues...etc. Just like human skin, it isn't all one color.

Someone outright asked me if I worked for Blizzard..wasn't making that a point really..but yeah I do. Prolly coz I draw a lot of Orcs? Who knows...these are my own designs, by the way, not Blizzard concept art.

Take it easy..

I tried something over your lineart, mainly to tone down the saturation, include a more precise source of light and small differences in hues.
the lineart was well done, really fun to paint over, things didn't need to be corrected on the fly. .... on a second glimpse the good lines didn't stop me from screwing the pic up.

Your company made all my fav games, watch out, I'll be working for it in a few years :]

Gecko:

Hey there...cool painting..I mean it could be more tight, but your lighting is good, I can already see that. Since I usually paint inside lines, I find I have a more graphic style, but yeah lighting is something I am working on with my paintings. Looks good.

Blitz: Ah thanks..I think my linework is stronger than my painting work..but I'm working on it, which is why I am here..I've been spending a lot of time doing 3D (Cinematics) so I've not had much to time to practice the painting skills.

Actually I am looking to move to the L.A. area, so if there are any game developers\art directors up that way, I am keen to talk to you.

Nice, deserves more replies for sure.

Very cool design, and colouring.. I think that this style is nice, different, and that is a good thing. I would however like to make a comment about the style..

I think that because of the style, the definition between materials is not clear. for example the wood on the axe has the same kind of 'plastic' look and highlights as some of the other materials.. it is comparable to the skin and metal as well.. I think that this is not a big prblem at all, just something you may want to consider.

Nukleon, nice work on the orc painting! I really enjoyed looking at the line art in detail.

Do you work for Blizzard South or North? The new Warcraft III cinematic was out of this world. Did you work on that? Do you know Samwise the art director? I have enjoyed seeing all his concept artwork through the years.

Ha, enough questions, sorry. Its just that Blizzard produces such great art...

Great to have you here!

Hi there...

Collosimo: Thanks for the comments! Which painting are you giving crits for?

Farwalker: Thanks. Yeah I enjoy studying line art as well...I'm a line fanatic tho...I am only now really delving into trying in earnest to paint my stuff without ruining it hehe.

I am actually looking for a new employer...days ago I ended my 7 month stay there....it'll be nice to get back to the L.A. area with my girlfriend, brother and nieces. So if anyone is reading this who wants to hire in the L.A. area or San Fernando Valley...I am all (pointy) ears hehe.

Yeah I've met Sam but he's on a different team...I love his work. I modeled the Throne Room for the War III Cinematic...did some texturing but most of it was done by someone else. The War III trailer looks awesome, I agree.

RROAM: I did not see Mississippi Burning, nor did I intend that hand sign to be anything like you mentioned..that is purely coincidence. Some people say it looks like the sign of the devil...which might be funny..a devil-worshipping Orc might make some sense..he's a meanie.

Blitz: 7 months...(not all War III) but days ago I became a free agent..looking to move back up to the L.A.\San Fernando Valley area.

If you all want to talk with me about WarIII (the little I can talk about)...email me privately. I don't want to hog the thread just blabbering away.

Take care,

i think i found out what bothered me here. it;s a bit weird but here goes - i think the lines dont mix with the coloring. i love the coloring and i love the art line but together they dont seem to mix. i dunno...

i think that maybe u can take the colored ver and take out the lines somehow. keep the shapes with shadows but the lines seem to sketchy for the polished coloring. know what i mean?...

darn...

again - good job though
