Kinda makes me feel like I'm stuck out there with him.........very nice....

Hey, that's really nice. Got a crit, though. The perspective on the footprints is kind of off, I think. It sort of looks like we're seeing them from straight above, when really, it would be more like a 45 degree angle. Or.. hmm. Maybe it's just that there's too much contrast in the footprints. (dry sand tends to smooth out the edges when you step in it. This looks more like he's leaving footprints in mud.) In any case, the overall effect is really good. Just that one little detail that I think could use a little work. |

Popz, Matt, danke schn. hmm.. I might take a look at your dune-work if you still have it online.
Waylon, thanks, you're the Man; The perspective was definitely off, I wonder how come I didn't see it immidiately.. I did some additions, adjustments and corrections. Refresh the view if you can't see the new version.
I have to mention as an excuse that I have never seen a real desert in real life nor I did study any dune-photos or anything, that could be identified as a reference, before I started to paint this. I just sat down, grabbed my Wacom pen and happily doodled away (spent about 5hrs now). |

Hey Sarge, nice to see something new from you. I love the way, as always, you take a tiny little figure and place him realistically into a huge landscape!
The detail on the pillar looks great, but something about the shadow looks off to me. I thought it was the height of it, but I can't pin it down exactly. |

Up! [from page 3, wow]
I'm now finished with this one, the ruins are new addition and I did some slight adjustments/fixes.
Alan, what is 'elegant'? j/k, thanks for the comment, heh.
Well, Eric, I tried to use the same character that ventured in my first landscape. He's so small though that he could be anybody. Right. I tried to fix the shadow, methinks it's.. at least different now. Hope you like it better this time. |

You know... this is very very nice. I like it a lot. I've tried drawing sand dunes before and I always have a really difficult time! Good work

Nice painting Staff Sarge. I think the values are pretty right and the ruins works fine also. Btw. Your using of paintbrush looks good to me! |

Wow, lot's of comments!
Thanks Jezebel, this is my first attempt playing with dunes. I don't think they're too difficult, it's just simple shapes and values you need to deal with. You could take mountains for comparison, those are quite tricky, not so easy as one might think.
Tepox, I tried to find the right values this time. Still, I think I need a lot of practice and study. Thanks anyway for noticing that.
Collosimo, Dino, waylon, Dryfire, Viele Danke!
shardik, this is the third version of the landscape, since the first I tried to fix the footprints. Do they still look wrong? Hmm.. well, next time I'll make sure they're alright right at the beginning. I don't think they'd shift in such a way/short time, but... |
