Yeah. This is an older pic I posted back in the day. Supposedly it was too empty and needed something else to spice it up. So I added in the spider and shadow. It wasn't really anything serious, I didn't even bother to use the tablet, but I'm just wondering whether it helps the composition and if anyone else has anything to say about it. Thanks.

Hey Tinusch.. long time no see!
It's very nice. I don't recall the previous one, but I can see how it could have been empty and unbalanced without the spider. Nice work.
You should visit more often... |

I like the image and think it has the cute-stylised thing happening. The scene still does look a little static as you have a spider and someone looking at it (well kinda, the pupils in the eyes need to be moved up a little to give the feeling that the dude is actually looking at the spider). maybe if there was a web on the dude or something to suggest a little bit more interaction. Also, where is the 2nd light source coming from that casts the shadow from the spider onto the wall? A cool idea though.
good ta see ya round too.

Hey Tinusch!
Glad you're back! Nice illustration you brought back from the past!
I love the shadow on the wall - really works nicely.
Where I have slight problems is the yellow of the light - a little bit red in that yellow wouldn't hurt - to make it less lemonny.
The second area I'd look at are the lightsources. The main one seems to come from the upper left corner, yet the spider's shadow is on the wall, indicating a different direction.
I also would try to differentiate the two lights hitting the guys face - would also result in more contrast.
Like the subject & design too!
Cheers
Loki
PS: I hope you'll stay for a while - we missed you! |

Yeah gotta love the character, really nice... hehe.
Composition is improved but still needs work. I think the environmental atmosphere of the pic is somewhat lacking. A blank wall seems to be too plain for the little guy that is standing there. From just looking at the character alone I imagine him to be outdoors and in some sort of old town with old wooden builidngs a cobblestone street and other oil lamps hanging around...
That spider shadow and lightsource problem as the others mentioned needs work as well...
I can see part of your reasoning for the spiders shadow as it relates to the white light direction on the chars face... although it is wonky still.... |

Thanks everyone. I know the lighting is way off... Especially on the spider's shadow. I bascially just did what looked good to me, rather than what I thought would be technically correct. I stylized everything. I guess others are more observant than me... I should pay more attention to that next time. Thanks a lot for the comments.
And about the composition... I was mainly trying to express a mood rather than a scene. That's my explanation for all the blank spots. |
