Nice, but for some reason the neck seems a little to long. |

Very nice pencil work happening there. One thing is yoda's right eye. That was the first thing that I noticed and it really takes away from otherwise really fine pencil work. It just doesn't look right. It either needs some form of a pupil as at the moment it looks like he has an infection in it (maybe I'm being to presumptionous and that is what you were after). The other thing that you could work on is you tone range. Your darkest areas are not that dark. Apart from the pupil in the eye, your darkest area is only a shading of grey. Areas around the neck could be darker and certain shadows could also be which I think would help to really give the image a bit more depth. |

I was going to say the same thing as Matt, but he beat me to it.
Tonal range... you should try and use the same principle as B&W photography. A Good technical photograph will have the brightest white, the darkest black, and all the greys imbetween. Of course that depends on what the photo is about.
It simply means that because of a lack of colour, B&W needs to make use of every tone possible to represent spatial depth. |

thanks for the comments so far
i agree on the tonal range of the painting, thats because i drew the whole thingie with a pencil of a HB hardness. i should use some more variations of pencils in the future especially some softer ones.
i will try to apply all your suggestions to the digital painting of master yoda i am working on.
its always cool to post something on the sijun forums, since its like going to the olymp and asking the gods, who know all your mistakes and problems. |
