My boyfriend is a programmer. He enjoys things like math and physics. I absolutely abhor math, but I really like science. Botony, zoology, marine biology, astrology... things on a more natural and less "technical" level. He also comes from a very artistic family. His mom is an artist as well as his oldest brother. His two other brothers are both musicians. I guess all I'm getting at is that our "careers" are completely opposite, but we have really similar interests. We can easily talk about the same things because we like the same things... but we don't DO the same things. We read fantasy/sci-fi novels together, play computer games together, work on the same projects together, like pretty much the same types of food and music, we can discuss science and art freely because we both have interests the subjects... But we don't have everything in common so we aren't like one of those crazy "twinkie" couples. We both do things that require lots of quiet time to ourselves so it works out well for him to sit at his computer for several hours working while I sit at mine for several hours working. I like how it works out. I think it would be weird if he were an artist or I a programmer, hehe
Did this make any sense whatsoever? I totally rambled
I just thought I'd add that because we do such different things it gives us a lot of respect for what the other person does. I'm always envious that Jah can sit down and code and think of all these technical things without permanantly damaging his brain. And he always enjoys looking at my artwork because it's something he's not as proficient in.

My boyfriend now is a network tech. I find that he spends more time on the computer than I do with my paint and because of that I don't have to worry about the time thing, but he's more of a black white guy... he doesn't see grey to easily and our opions clash every now and then.
I don't have to worry about him doing better than I at art though... and his friends that claim they are commerical artist... I think we had a post for those kind of artist ("borrowed" art work).
But it works we spend enough time away from each other that we don't fight and get what we need to finished. My computer break he fixes it... he needs a flyer or design I make it. |

well my boyfriend... er wait I'm not gay! and since I don't have a blissful committed relationship right now I'm probably no good for comments... but I'm bored, so I wilt. let's see, well personally I dream of someone (when I'm not being cynical or afraid of jynxing) who is vivacious, loveful, and poetic in her approach to the world. I'd say that sounds kind of artistic, so yeah I'd probably want someone artistic -- but I mean, the craft doesn't come in there in my head when I think of a dream girl, I don't see her holding a paintbrush. I just want to be loved mainly. If that's there what else is there to worry about? |

I asked this to my other artist friends.
"Is it important to have your significant other also be an artist?"
The replies varied.
"Yes, so they understand my passion, and share it, and won't complaiin when I spend 12+ hours on a painting."
"No, because you feel competitive, and he/she might not be a fan of your art style, and that really hurts."
"Nah, as long as they are creative in some way. They can be a writer, musician, actor...whatever. But definitely creative, so they appreciate art."
"Nope, as long as we get along, and have great sex."
Now, let's hear what the Sijun kids think.
Personally, I think if you both share the same passions/interests(games, art, films, music, comics, RPG..etc), your relationship will be stronger. Just my opinion. Never dated anyone like that. I wouldn't really know. All the cute girls with similar interests are always taken already. *sigh* |
