Here's one I did last year but nobody's seen it yet. I thought I'd drag it outta' the closet and submit it for your approval.
It's my interpretation of the character from the Antarctic Press comics.

Not bad at all. The thing that perhaps need a bit work is the lighting. Looks liek you used airbrush.. It's actually better to start with just the regular paintbrush
sure the airbrush can be a good tool if used properly (ie shane caudle) but other than that, it isn't a really great tool to start with because it softens all the edges. I can see your trying to imply lighting form the fire so shadows should be more defined as well as highlights. The airbrush also causes a "plastic" look to paintings i'd say.
The whole concept is pretty cool...the fire in the back is great.
One thing thats bugging me is the blade of the sowrd. it doesn't seem to be affected by lighting and looks at the wrong angle and looks flat.
well hope my comments hlped. |

Thanks for the observations!
It's kinda funny that you remarked on the sword because it's actually a 3D rendered object with reflections of colors from the image. I shoulda just painted the thing after all the trouble it took to make it and then it came out like that.
I think this pic is about a year old. I generally would block out the colors with the pencil then select them and shade and highlight them on different layers. Since playing around with Painter I'm starting to develop an entirely different tecnique that will give a more "painterly" look. |

Gah! I used to have to color that comic for Antarctic Press. What a nightmare.

Shouldnt her puss line up with her belt buckle? it kinda looks to far to the left (our left). Other than that I think the pic kicks ass, a hot warrior nun, dont see that everyday! :P |

Personally i really like this image, has a nice cartoony feel to it, and as far as i'm concerned it's an original idea. Think you did a fine job.
JOEP: It looks fine to me. |

joep - You are correct! It should.
I usually try to work stuff like that out in the sketch first. As shown here, I was trying to create a line-of-motion so that all that stuff was facing the right direction (unless of course she was turned to one side).
Maybe because of the inking its unclear. the focus for the pic however is actually her eyes
That's of course why I drew her tabbard like that to begin with
neebhore - Thanks for the comments! I wish I could take credit for coming up with the idea, but it's Ben Dunn's character. |
