looking good Rob=)
these are my favorite of the things I've seen from you.
I know you're going for the clean look, but I feel some of the edges could be softer. they have that cookie cutter look in places.
looseing some of the edges also gives the image a better focus. move the eye where you want it through distributing detail in the right places. it can still be tight and clean.

Well, I commented on Necrolord over at GFX artist and I will comment on the Dark Elf here because I like these pictures heaps.
In my own opinion, maybe add a little more texture to the face and keep it a little sharper.
On a better note, I really like the design and the clothes look really good.
Necrolord is definently the better/favoured picture. |

Thanks Rinaldo.
Yeah I was a bit unconfortable about some of the edges. I'm sure softening them would improve the overall look.
r3koil thanks.
Have you been able to get onto GFXartist lately? Seems like they've been down.
Thanks for |

Thanks.
Yeah with a mouse and careful use of the smudge tool in some places for strokes.

Very nice work... has a kind of D&D feel to both pics. I especially like the elf.. except that the color of her face kind of seems to change for no reason. |

Darklighter: Her race is of Dark Elf origin but according to the storyline for the game I am helping to create she needs to have an almost innocent look to her. I was able to full evil with the Necrolord though
Lateralus: Yeah I never noticed that about the color. Hopefully it's not too noticeable.
I think I'll be lazy instead of fixing it.
Since this is fantasy maybe I can think of an explanation for the change in color. :P
Collosimo: Thanks. I can't wait to get my hands on a tablet. I've never used one but I hear that they allow all kinds of freedom especially with strokes and lines. |

Wow, amazing stuff, especially for a mouse! I really like the drapery of the cape of the Necrolord.

I think the second pic is great. I love the detail on the guys upper body. Seeing as how this isn't my style, I'm not really an expert on it. however, the first pic kinda bugs me. It looks like her mouth is a little lopsided and the outline of where the chin meets the neck seems a little too soft. Otherwise, great job. |

Brainswitch I agree I overdid it a bit with the softness. And yeah the mouth is a bit weird. Things I'll take into consideration next time though.
Tepox I just have a regular Logitech Mouse.
Although I've gotten really smooth control over it by downloading a free app called PS2Rate.
If you use a mouse do a search for it on Google to find it. It enables you to bump your mouse rate up to 200hz. I think windows default is 60hz. |

Hi raist,
I think your work is really good! I am a newbie to my computer and software.Photoshop
is a program I am learning to use and"No-way" could I do anything this good!
As a traditional artist, I just have one "critique". The "light" source is not working.
What I mean by that is...The "lighting"on the
womans face and hair is coming from the "front"and above her head. Yet the "shadows" are very soft and with no direction. Do this:
Take two "lights"...Put one over your head and
one directly in front of your face....You will see very sharp, deep shadows. Keep up the great work...Just try observing "light source"
a little more....I look forward to your next post! |

Thanks Fallen. I'll be sticking to more productive threads from now on.
Catnip: Thanks for the crits. Lighting is something I need more work on. As for being a newbie I can tell you I am no veteran in digital painting. I made the transition a little over a year ago and my first digital work was done on a free program called PhotoDeluxe that came free with my scanner.
Since then I have upgraded to Photshop and have been trying to improve with every new pic I do. What part of Boston are you from? I'm in Everett but originally from Somerville aka Scumerville :P. |
