No, its not bad... its terrible!!!!
Joking... you asked for it...should have known better!
It is cool, Maybe you didn't give ppl enough time to reply. A little bit blurry, try cleaning up some edges, and add some texture to the skin to make it more interesting and less CG. You need some better defined light sources, and shadow of course. Simplify your shading a little bit and try to get rid of some of the imbetween grey values, midtones...
I am not an exepert at all, but I'll continue anyway...
Your light source is a bit confusing, you seem to have a main one from the top and in front, thats ok, but not a very dynamic light source that would allow you to render the form easily. See my point? Basically it would be a better defined shape if you were able to show a range of light and shadow on the surface, maybe from the left as you also have. Try sticking to one light source even though two can look cool, at the moment it only detracts from the image, IMO. Keep in mind also that you should variate the intensity of the light, for example at the moment it seems that the highlights are of equal intensity on every surface that would have highlights, Your light source and therefore your highlights should be the brightest closest to the light itself. So you should graduate the intensity of your highlights from the top and in front (where the light is.) to the lower part of the pic. Hope that made sense..
What resolution are you working at? It looks to me that you should up the resolution so that you can work more accurately and add some detail.
The anatomy is wonky... if you turn your head sideways at the same angle as the character you will see what I mean. Eyebrows, cheek, jaw etc.
WOW, that was a big crit! Despite all the things I said, this is a nice pic, I like the fact that the head is at an anlge, opposed to just a static vertical angle. Dont take all the comments as me being harsh, because you should only take advice from them.. and you will get better. Anyone else have any opinions??
Try making some changes... I'd be interested to see any updates.

I think the guy would look great with a great afro. added bonus of agreat big afro is a reduction in background to fill.
on a side note:
:( :) :P - too many smilies around here - > :(

Hey I like the veins! good idea the neck was a bit blank but now it is good. As for the crit I gave, np, I think that crit and discussion is what people come here for, so that's what they'll get! (from me at least)
It is good that you have changed the shadows, I think it makes the facial features stronger, it is more dynamic, so also keep that in mind for your next pic.
Thx for updating the pic, It makes things more fun.
Keep on at it! |
