Hi.

I recently got the A|W caustics plugin and wanted to have a go, still being a newbie to Maya.

So I did their wine tutorial. And after thinking about it, I wanted to make mine look as real as possible. So I added textures, displacement maps, etc...tweaked the lighting more (they don't give settings in the tutorial at all), more lights, etc...

That's what I came up with after working on it for a while.

Please tell me what you think?

Thanks,

Traveling Uncle Nat.

The glass looks great...the walls look good...alltogether they don't look as good. As well the light thrown on the wall could use a little more definitition and a little less saturated color thrown on it. I think the surface would absorb a little less color than that. But the glass is spectacular.

I aggree, the glass i svery nice. Same goes for the walls and the wine. I feel the light cast from the glass is too powerful though. I haven't got a wine glass handy (They're in the dishwasher) so I can't check, but the light cast at the base of the glass looks way too brought for the illumination of the room. The same goes with the light on the wall. I don't mind the saturation, but the illumination seems far too bright and blurry to seem "right".

Overall though, it's a vast improvement of the last pic you showed me (Although that *was* ages ago )

Cool. Thanks for the tips people. Yeah, it's not perfect but it's close enough for now. I had a lot of other things to do RL and figured it would do for now since I already learned a lot making this picture.

Actually, the sunlight is right on line with the glass itself. The reason the base is so caustic is because the refractive index is making it shine downwards after bending the light. Actually, for a morning shot, it's pretty real - sunlight does some really strange and beautiful things in the morning, which is why we photographers go out so early to take pictures. But of course, it does have some problems and I'll try to fix them when I make it into a full scene.

Nat.
