Yeah, you can overuse it... but really... who cares as long as the pic looks how you want it to?

I think the above looks cool as hell. Hope to see more.

that's a really cool concept. I like the colors a lot.

dodge/burn is a bad tool. I think it's throwing your image off.

bad tool? only when people can't use it properly..

burn/dodge is a extremely useful tool, idiot.

funk-ay. although they seem too friggin happy and bright to be torturers. I don't mind the dodge/burn debackle here, because it's kind of interesting to look at, and I don't care if people use it as long as they at least understand that it is a photo exposure tool, not a magic shadow/light tool.

I like the concept but it looks like your use of the airbrush tool or the dodge burn is blotchy. Dark and light blotchs that don't make anatomical since. Your use of them is a little heavy handed. I'm not referring to color so much as texture. You need to think of them more as drawing tools to support the underlying artwork.

It also looks like you've gone around the front character with the blur tool, maybe trying to acclimate them more into the background. Maybe a little too much blur and uneven.

I tried a little repaint. For one, I think your edges were a bit too blurry, my eye had trouble making out the shapes.. So I tried to sharpen those.. I also worked on the shape of your objects by working on the lighting some more. In your drawing, it seems it's never "dark" or "light" at some places, but if you'd render the same character in 3dsmax you'd really see lighter and darker areas, which I tride to make evident here. Try using hard edged brushes, rather than airbrush.. Even through the simple term "airbrush" seems more futuristic There's also alot of black lines that are visible in your drawing, probably from the original linesketch you did. I don't know if they really fit there, anyway. Hope this helps.

does nobody want to comment on my new pic?
is it because of the fact that ive posted my
new image in the same thread?

ive started a few sketches of more
characters and the castle in the background
which hopefully ill post in the next few days.

Have any of u guys ever drawn castles? as i
am finding it hard, architecture is not my
strong point.

any advice??? any??? .... at all?

theres a lot of things i really, really like about it. maybe its hard to talk about it cuz theres just TOO much going on... sorry im not that helpfull. if you dont like drawing castles then dont. if your hearts not in it, it wont come out right... if you want reference material for architecture, its not too hard to track down. why is all that stuff all mashed together into one pic?

thanks

ive been doing seperate characters and have
started to bring them together to make this
which (when finished) will hopefully be a
presentation board, although so far it hasn't
been very well laid out.

yea ive also looked around, and found,
reference pics, but recently, i just can't
get my head down when it comes to drawing.

oh yeah ROUNDEYE : forgot to say how brilliant i thought your "another quick sketch inside" pic was, amazing!!

wow

very impressive
you've got the form and expression in the characters perfect.

edit- i was gnna comment on how u left some lines there and how it makes it look sketchy. But then i didn't because i realised it would make it look kinda plain and more colorful/cartoony. Now that i see your 2nd picture, i see that i was right. I like the 1st pic a lot better

hello people!

some sketches i did today, which ill probably start to paint tomorrow.

any comments before i do? -- especially on
the big monster as i am not very familiar
with muscle structures at the minute, (most
of the reference was by feeling my own huge
bulging muscles! )

got to get myself one of those artists
anatomy books, anybody know of any good ones?
ive seen one by Jeno Barcsay (think thats
spelt right) which looked good..

anyway... comments?

flying lizard things...

gereral warrior guys...

monster with head ring...

These last three look really good. I especially like the bat-winged creatures. The monster has some minor anatomical issues, but the pose bothers me more (it's a bit awkward). I think he's supposed to be running, but it's very uncertain. If you can, get a friend to pose in a running position for a minute or two so you can get a couple of sketches from a couple angles. Or if all else fails, pose in front of a mirror- just make sure no one is watching!

the torturer?? thats what everybody keeps
asking me!!! i must admit that when it was
first mentioned to me, the word doppelganger
sprung to mind.

but no, BOB (his name) was actually loosely
based on a photo of myself posing in
character from which i did a pencil
drawing. if i still have the photo ill post
it for a laugh.

also, any crit's / comments on the skelton
guys?? (i know the arm of the guy on the
far left is at the wrong angle and way too
long)...

"make everything really dark" trick, to
cover up my lack of detail
