It's painted from a picture i found of John Lennon from the movie Magical Mystery tour. It had some strange colours that i had problems understanding, so it was fun trying to work them out.
Updated:
Edit: Just found this...
can't remember doing it and i can't find a bigger version either. Oh well.

Honestly, I really don't like the feathers. The rest is very very nice though. Except I don't really like the stripes on the coat. But it's a hell of alot better than I could do. Bravo. |

i like how the collar and hat are so simple and even the face, but still tells the visual story brilliantly. like a nice, well-timed piece of poetry. |

With the focus on the detailed face as I suppose it should be, everything else does what it needs to without drawing too much attention. I like how you did the hair.
Very nice. |

Michael-kun.. I think the reason the colors are weird is because they filmed that movie with an american camcorder instead of quality japanese so that's why you got weird colors, nee?
But honestly, I'd simply like to say, even though I don't always write appraisals in your threads, or anyone's for that matter, I always read your threads and posts and enjoy them very much. Me and Frost always communicate to each other whenever an elite member of the forum posts a new pic
I try to keep my mouth shut if I don't have anything to show to people. Less talk, more painting and/or constructive criticism, is what people should do. |

It's Lennon...plain, simple, and beautifully rendered.
I love the simple block colouring, and the mood is great. Good show...any dead Beatle would be proud
I think I'd like to see just a couple separations in the feathers, but the rest is great!

I like the likeness of the face and that the use of colors make this piece feel cooling.
His glasses/spectacles do seem strange and are slanted. I suppose it is intentional as they were like that?
Although this post is not too much of a critic, but I just wanted to let you know that your artwork always inspires me and I look up to you. |

Hi,
I think this is really nice.
I just wish anyone who places and illustration
in this gallery was obligated to tell what
software program or programs they used.
We "newbies" would like to know if art is
"fudged" Photo's or pure originality or
something inbetween. A pro can pick this up
in a second, but "newbies" cant. |

Catnip- this is most likely 100% Photoshop. Most people here do their work in Pshop, Painter, or PaintShop Pro.
Micke- Brilliant! I'm awstruck and jealous. And Magical Mystery Tour is one crazy movie, especially when you first see it at eight years old.

Tanks for the replies!
Obviously i have to do something with those feathers. They look like that on the photo, but i do see how they can be misunderstood.
Working on it right now.
Burnout: They are all gone. Textile glue don't last long.
Canistr: Thanks
Snake-G: Probably a 8mm, and the film stocks have been lying around rotting in some archive since the late 60's.
Thanks
Artkeo: I see the problem with the glasses and i'll check it out right now and post an update soon. Thanks! Valid crit indeed.
Catnip: I'm sorry. It was done in photoshop6 and i used the paintbrush with only hard brushes. It's not fudged. i did it freehand with the photo in front of me trying to get it as close as possible. I usiually don't copy photos, but i liked this picture of Lennons profile, so i just did it.
Sacrelicious: It's confusing ey? But i still love the movie. It has some strange humour in it wich apeals to me. Thank you for your kind words.
I'll post a update soon.

I've updated the picture now. Does it look better?
I refined some areas, added detail, fixed the feathers a bit and tried to improve the glasses.
Thanks for the crits

oh man, thats fantastic. I love those old school colors, that sounds like a great excercise. The refined version looks great too, I don't think you lost anything in it. |

Cool, the colors make it look like a sun-faded photgraph (all of the yellow leeched out)
That's John Lennon all right, and nice touch-up on the details. Boy, if you didn't already have such a huge collection of pictures, I'd say make this a portfolio piece :P Hehe! |
