Yeah... very 3d. Did you use textures? But I think it could be a little darker to look scary. Well, I would buy there Great detail everywhere... I dunno what you want to add if it wasn't a quickie

The basic building shapes were actually done in 3D - but flat shaded with no lighting - the reflection is painted.

S4 - the brightness should be ok - depending on your monitor-settings But I could be wrong ...

Yeah.. I guess you'Re right. I can't really point my finger on it... but it somehow doesn't look scary to me. Maybe it's the friendly green?

Yeah - maybe the green is too friendly but that's why I put the nasty bloodstain on it. Oh well - I'll keep that in mind if I should do something similar. Thanks

Beautiful texturing, Loki.

I can't help but feel it needs foreground elements, scattered litter (i.e newspapers adrift in the wind), or, a parked beat up retro 1960s car.

I agree with S4Sb. I don't really ge the feeling of a certain location. It semms more like a genaric "scary" storefront. If I was the client I would want to see some details with character. Parts of old signs, grafiti, boreded up windows, heating pipes coming through walls, more varity in the color of the biuldings, I don't know. It's kind of video-gamey. And just because it might be for a game is no excuse. Sorry, I'm just choosing a moment to be picky. Only for you Loki.

Don't shoot me!

All the comments are totally valid. But I won't go back and fix it - that thingy will just rest in the archives - but next time I'll do it right!

I like it, but I dont think it has a too scary mood.
Theres something with that crack on the top right, dont know what it is.
But other than that, really good!

The green doesn't need to be fixed. I didn't want to sound like... erm... a guy who wants to get on your nerves because of lousy details. It's great as it is. Saved it right after spotting it

That bloodstain is really nasty

S4: saved it - I feel honored! No - you're not going on my nerves at all. I think it goes like this:
By posting their images here, people automatically agree to accept crits. That's why I said "Open fire!"

Thanks - Loki

yup
it sure conveys the atmosphere nicely

luv the bad paint job

edit- i also think that there should be some garbage lying on the streets. Its too clean for such a bad neighborhood

3 hours...that's how long I spend staring at a blank sheet of paper before I give up trying.

I really like it. It has a forboding look to it without being blatant. The slanted angle of the camera and the low-lying fog that seems to part to make a path to the bookstore's bloodied doorway. The fact that the bookstore is given some color compared to the drab concrete building surrounding it make it stick out as if it was a character. I'd almost expect it to be an illustration to a Stephen King story.

Holly: don't forget that I had the 3D understructure already. It's simple, but I didn't need to draft anything. Knowing this you'll agree that 3 hours is not too much. Maybe I should've invested another hour to put in some trash and another one for the cool beat up 60s car - a la 'Fallout' ...

I like the plain-ness of it.

It reminds me (kind of) of the store from Friday the 13th - the series. I think it was called 'Curious Goods', although I ma not sure.

I thought it was supposed to be written "Loki's Toolshop" in front...

The values look nice enough (monochrome grey is a big turnoff for me though.=)

uh oh... themilkman said 'masterful' right before I was going to... anyway...

Masterfully done. the drawing, the detail, all exceptional. on the atmosphere - if you're going for fear (are you?) - well personally I find the lighting and colors here kind of like bright steel and a prefab set, and to me, that's not nearly as scary as things that are more plain, washed-out, normal, but sinistarly deserted...

WOW!

I dont know how you do it Loki, your pics always look so real, and really well rendered. Someone mentioned litter and a bit more character, well I reckon that is a good idea. It needs a little more..

Hi guys!

This was a quickie production painting I did a while ago. It was completed in about 3 hours and it's purpose was to convey the mood of a certain location - nothing more, nothing less. It's no masterpiece of course, but I dare to say to it transports the mood somewhat. Original was about 2000 pixels wide.
Crits are welcome - open fire!

Cheers,

Loki

Very cool, Mr. B.

I really like the reflections in the window, although the warpage of the images give it a sense they're bubble windows - going out into the street rather than being flat panes. I dunno if this was intentional(?), but it doesn't seem to fit in with the overall scene ver well. Almost like an ice cream parlor

Also, I've noticed throughout your work you never have any edges missing - everything is clearly defined and formed perfectly. However, I think if you did lose a few edges and killed some detail, you'd get alot more depth and realism. For example, you could easily just kill the background wire and fence and just throw a piece of paint onto it. Also, the edges of the buildings as they fade into the background. As this is a night scene, the pupil would probably be adjusted to the light in the upper right hand of the image, and thus you'd lose a great deal of detail in the darker areas--windows, overhangings, and deeper areas in the image. Gotta run..i'll be more detailed when I return hopefully.

-Marc

Nice look Loki

It actually reminds me of the classic Charlton Heston flick "Omega Man"
I'm just picturing the albino people to come up from the bowels of the city!!!!!

If you haven't seen Omega Man....RENT IT!!!
