Hey Dirty Wett,
I took a good look at your site, read your "interview" and looked at your tatoo designs. I hope I can say, as lovingly as possible, that I think your mixing of a comicbook style with surrealistic concepts is not very effective. I mean it will be to a certain degree. Things are well drawn, but ultimately your work looks like poster art for rock bands. Maybe album covers (I bet you would love to do album covers) but it's a very limited market. One of the biggest proplems I see, other then the comicbook style, is your characters are always dead center in the composition. The images are not as situational as they could be if the charcters were doing there thing, uhm....for instance, off in the corner of a dark room somewhere. It could make the characters actions more enigmatic, creepy.

Regarding surealism: The best surrealist (Salvador Dali, DeChirico, maybe even Ralph Steadman just to name a few examples) I believe, place what are the frozen moment of some action within believable spaces. OR spaces that actually have volume. And that usually means the use of a ground somewhere, a reference to the horizon. Your backgrounds dont appear to be well thought out, and while they are sort of pretty, they don't lend much information to the picture. They feel a bit like cop outs. Easier then dealing with real backgrounds. The surrealists used these backgrounds to (obviously) provoke a since of creepy realness and (perhaps less obvious) to show a stagnation, or a frozen moment in time.

As far as the comicbook style renderings you are using, we will always take our visual ques from comicbooks we have read. While the images might get across an idea, I believe they will always lack the emotional impact someone like Salvador Dali was able to get.
