So tell us which college, boy. Or else we'll have to kill ya for not tellin us.
Congrats!!
Oh and one thing Isric what ever you do in college stay focused on what you like. The biggest proplem in college are teachers with the idea that they are going to form and shape kids into thier own images. Don't allow that to happen. Be firm and use what information you find there to feed YOUR interest. Don't let teachers talk you into large metal sculptures and junk like that unless you want to. Develope those drawing skills and don't get drawn away from that. (don't even let them change your drawing style)
I had over seven years of undergraduate studies and three years in a masters program and I regret them all. Because I was almost instantly moved away from what I really love doing (illustration) and I spent all those years painting abstractions and doing large scale metal sculpture. I was good at them and have had some success, but I regret missing all thoses years not honing my drawing skills. I am playing catch up now. Also trying to make a living as an abstract artist is next to impossible, so stay focused and on what you LOVE doing, be arrogant almost to a fault and protect what you care about.
Good Luck

great. but what kind of art training are you planning on getting? most art schools are abscent much knowledge of the illustrative/comic genre of image styling and execution. i remember when i went to art school back in the mid 80s i had a style much like yours. i found that the instructors and majority of other students did not look upon it verywell. there were some others in my position also at the time and they to had difficult experiences. i eventually left after two years. hopefully art school environments have become more open since then. just make sure you keep as open minded as possible and don't let anyone bring you down. your style is your own and it will develop on it's own.
take care and have fun

Isric,
well duh, dude. You've got very confident and strong lines as well as a great feel for each character. It's no surprise that you got accepted - enjoy your success!
However, I still don't know what's wrapping around that one guy's face but I hope it's not seethrough panties.

Glad to see you're still doing those cool character designs, in addition to your newer color works.

Congratulations Isric!
And these sketches are you before college.
BTW, I might be picking an art college in about a year or so. Could do with your thoughts on the course you're doing when the time comes. |

Congrats, Isric. No doubts here that you'd get in. Cool sketches, too. Solid stuff.
Milkman: Heh, you know I went to Digipen and I'd tell Isric to stay away...he's got waaaay too much 2D talent to be concentrating on 3D stuff. I'm still sorry that the school never gave as much focus as I'd have liked to 2D. I was the only one in the art room drawing and perfecting my art assignments while everybody was in the computer room frantically trying to learn 3D...and I still didn't get enough. It's a good school, especially if you're looking to get into games...but Isric could do better elsewhere for what he's probably looking to study. |

Hey, Congratulations Isric, knew you'd get in!!!! Like someone said...keep your visions while learning basic and advanced theories and techniques.
oh yeah...MilkMan I totally disagree with you. Isric seems to be a very aspiring artist...not simply a game artist. If Isric wanted to get into game art I am sure he would have just learned 3D Studio Max and secured a job, instead of wasting his time drawing. Point of fact, yes art schools take most people with money, but most of my friends and I had little if any financial aid or monetary support, and we busted our asses to graduate. Yeah alot of people might get A's and graduate... but grades don't mean shit.
The small percentage of good game art that I have seen is usually by someone with college experience. Art isnt about making money, and if you think the point of art is money, then that is pretty sad. Also, If you think there are no good schools in the US, then you either dont know what you're talking about, or you dont know what you're talking about. I havent seen any of your work MilkMan, so If I were you I wouldnt be giving any artistic or career advice to anyone.
I think that is pretty crappy to try to deter someone from going to college when you dont know what you're talking about. There are too many valuable learning possiblities and artistic skills to be gained from college to not go... but then, you wouldn't know.

congrats Isric, by this time next year I'm hoping for a similar letter. Like everyone else said don't let the bastards fuck with you, find a teacher who teaches what you want to learn and feed your brain, you will succeed. And please, please be sure to wear protection |

Well thanks for all the further congradulations and advice. I have a very definiative view of what I want to accomplish. I understand why art college might not be neccessary from Milkman's point of view, but to me, texturing a video game is the same as carrying groceries out for old ladies...yeah you learn how to make conversation with an old lady, but then it's time to move on and learn something else.
I'm headed for the Alberta College of Art and Design. From what I've heard it's fairly dificult to get into, so I'm feeling pretty good about it. I really don't intend to stay for the whole 4 year program, i hope to move down to the states and start plowing it up with a few companies (but that's thinking way to far ahead).
Thanks again, I'll keep you guys updated if anything else frikin awsome happens.

Hey well Congrats... I was too accepted into art college.. At sheridan college down in toronto. Turn out they sent the wrong lettre to me and i got another letter last week, of appology and said i was accepted. I cant to wait to start. I heard its pretty damn hard to get into sheridan Aswell. I applied to the alberta college of art and design but since i was accepted into sheridan and is just as good as alberta ALSO is closer i decided to go to sheridan hehe. |
