I'm happy to say all that big talk about janne and I painting 500 pics has proved to be more than just that. Thanks for all of you who contributed to the theme list!

These are just the tip of the iceberg, rest of the pics can be browsed here (more pics should appear every day):
http://members.surfeu.fi/pveik/500/

If you're wondering what all this is about, go check the digi art discussion thread below. I hear Capt.Flushgarden is gonna do a lot of these too, and these 500 themes isn't quite enough, so feel free to add to it!

Everyone else with pics about this 'project', let's see em in this thread :).

very cool work!

@Gecko:
2nd picture, round horizon gives it a nice feeling, points out distance and height, very good, but shouldn't the trees on the ground be vertical to the horizon (hope this works in english language...)?
3nd picture, this one is awesome, like it very much. What is the thing on the ground supposed to be?

@janne:
yours are very good aswell, especially the 2nd one. I like the colors and technique. Spring is coming, eh ? At least I hope so... its snowing outside... damn...

morph: the trees, yeah they should :)

silber: read the other thread for more info. mine are 15-30 min pics (to be honest girl in dress took longer). 30 min is the limit :)

we are not doing these in any particular order, the 500 themes are just a guide from which to pic ideas.

this sounds like an excellent idea. However I always had the impression that these kind of fast paintings should be done from life.

Do you really learn much from imagination?

Both of you never cease to amaze me. All of these are great

This is a wonderful idea for a project! This is something I should probably do as well. Would you mind? It's kinda hard to come up with 500 new themes on my own

21th pic added http://www.saunalahti.fi/~jannep1/workish/500/

silber: it's same 15-30 mins for a pic for me too.

skullighter: sure we learn even when making these from imagination but it's true that it would be a lot more helpful if we were doing these from life. but that's not an option so...

jezebel: of course we don't mind. go right ahead!

Who've been busy boys then...hmmm?.

That plane pic kicks arse.

Janne loven the many moods in those quickies, esp the mafia, lighthouse, and that blue factory piece just does for me.

Nice, lads!

Are you doing your pictures with reference or do you just draw from mind?

silber: don't stop there! :)
rumor has it, mr. snake grunger is also working on his paintings.

skull: this teaches a lot, even though from life it would be much more effective. Still, this makes one think.

jez: you are welcome too, set yourself a nice 500-directory and start piling them up :]

burnout: post more :)
boomstick: they better be available to public viewing :)

s4sb: all of them are from mind, my underwater pics didn't look that much underwater so i took a look at some photos from altavista of how the surface of water looks from beneath and tried again.

My first two. Half an hour passed on the first one. I made too much detail, I guess. Well, I learned that for the second one.

Fun!

Heya, great thing you have going on here ! Man, I wish I had time to join in on doing 500....I'm really looking forward to see the progreess in quality. I'll try to squeeze in some time. -One suggestion, I don't know if this exercise is to be done without the use of reference or not. But, in many ways it could be a really good opportunity to do that. Because, If you find references every time, but don't copy, I think after 500 pics you must have ,without even knowing, observed a great deal and hopefully easier being able do things that was harder to understand and imaginate earlier....does that make sense ? ....it's an idea aleast.

anyway, here's 6 mountains I just quickly brushed, actually not made with this thread in mind, but based on the same consept anyway. ....sorry

-What I found most fun while doing these, was that so little mistakes in values and contrasts could make the mountains look like small rocks, no matter how much you detail and tweak things...and if you get the values right, the mountains can look really huge with just a few simple strokes. Not something I'm masterering, but def. a thing I find interessting.

Enough rambling. . . .I'll try to join in on this great exercise from time to time and hopefully start posting a bit more to

I did a few myself I think I'll go rip them to shreds. hehe

About 30 minutes each, and I didn't use any reference, though sometimes I wish I did

Here's my whole directory.

Also, I send congrats out to Joachim, Spooge and Janne, you guys made my day I'm also glad 2/3 of you agreed to shake hands with me, it's becoming a greater honor everyday.

These are just awesome!!!
It's so wonderful how fast you can visuliaze (is it writed right?) your idea wiyh wacom. I Think that is very strong side of digital painting.

Gecko: I just love your aeroplane pic. It has very nice feeling.

Janne: You have chosed very nice palette for your last pic.

Spooge Demon: I like best your last pic. It reminds me WW2 city after bombing.

Joachim: There is lots of realism in those mountains. I like each one of them!
