I have not posted in . . . oh so very long. But my work has continued.

The reason I am posting this is to find out what you think, and to hear any arguments you may have for or against this picture. Please post now. Thank you.

That is nifty, except that he wouldn't very scary in real life because he is so top-heavy that he would just tip over, unless he was flying of course...

Hey Katana,

Very nice pic. However, some of its impact is definitely lost when you see the charicature like legs.

I think the legs are fine. I really like the head and the rendering of the horns. good work.

Thanks for the posts!
Ironic that this IS a character design for an animated short I plan to do. I was intentionally trying to have the character be hulking at top and then needle thin at the bottom. You have to admit it is a lot cooler than reverse. And so I was pleased with the design.

I think with more work it would look like a Disney character.
I really like it.

I tend to like the composition that long thin rectangular "canvases" can provide, and thus the tallness of this picture. I was trying to get a "depths of Hell" feel with the composition. But regardless I have cropped it (per mellowsmoothe's suggestion) to see if it looked better.

I don't know, I kind of like both.

BTW, What does the ball of light hes holding represent?
I could see if he was holding someones soul...

*edit - I like the large tall image better. */edit*

i think theres too much room above the guy. MAybe if you put some light shining down, or a moon, or somethn there it'd look better.
Or you shorten the space a bit *err... couldn't see ur edited 2nd pic at first*

i like how u drew the actual monster tho. Makes him look tough, but sneaking around

I can see this one as an animated short character. Something to give Radiskull and devil doll a run for their money. Nice menacing pose (inspite of the tiny legs). Keep it up.

That left hand (not the one holding the soul or whatever): the angles, the gnarled hand pose, the sweeping lines in contrasting directions. The hand is so well done that I dare say it carries the picture single...uh...handedly.

Coolage! I anticipate your anee-ma-shuns! And the "depths of Hell" feel of the original IS cool. Go with it!

And yes, I agree that he'd look silly with fat legs and a pointy head :P

I find the one with more head room to be much more interesting to look at and have a better atmosphere. The extra space also gives him room the room to fly, handy for a dude w/ wings.

Either way two big thumbs up.

Thank you one and all! I have been having a little debate with Agent 44 as to whether it was worth the time to post to the forum anymore. (Obviously an artist of his caliber, gets waves and waves of positive and useful comments, where as I usually got crap or no posts at all.) Anyway since the forum split I have not been that active, and this post was me testing the water to see if I wanted to get in again. Your comments have been intelligent and useful and therefore proving that posting to the forum is worthwhile. As for this picture, I think I like the tall version better, it has more of a sense of space. Thanks for all the compliments especially Gimbal8. I am pretty happy with the way that hand turned out.
