Here's another painting based on one of the sketches I posted a few days ago. Trying to get away from the line art thing. How'm I doing?

Transformerific.

Still looks a little line-arty, but it's a good transition.

LOOKS GREAT Fran.

Your painting looks good...um...I just want to see the guy...My eyes want to see the rest of him, the composition just cuts him off and it feels incompleet. You know what Im saying?

Maybe its just me. You know I love your stuff though, I check ya later man. Till then stay cool, keep drawing, and play transformers allot

not too bad. not too bad at all. really has a transformers look to it. which is cool. anyways. maybe the metal could use a bit more texture to it to add a more of a variation in tones of grey. also you could lightly smudge those dark lines in some areas just a little bit too help get rid of that line art look... just a suggestion

Francis, I agree with Blitz also. I think the major problem with this is that there is not a specific focus to the piece. For instance my eyes want to focus on the head on the left, but then they want to focus on the robot being repaired, then on the guy in the yellow suit.

However, that's not what you asked So, as far as getting away from linework, you've definitely accomplished that, I think its something you could apply to many of your other pieces. Looks great, Boy you're sure pumping these out, feels great don't it?

Keep it up, I'm love'n it!

I too agree with the no specific focus to an extent, but my eyes are drawn to the great detail on the robot that is falling apart or being repaired or whatnot. Excellent.

Anyone else think of Moonwalker when they saw this or is it just me?

Its a cool pic Francis. Some of the line work looks a little to loose though. It kind of detracts from the whole big mech feel.

I think this is great. I especially like that yellow guy in front. And the head farthest in back is really cool too. I like the style. It's hard to get away from the line work when your so used to it. But I think you did a superb job.

The position and pose of the human seem akward, but I /really/ like the look of the robot. The exposed neck bits are great.

very neat. I like the prospective and and lighting you got.

disclaimer: I don't know what I'm talking about..

these robots all seem to be about the same size, but the value of the one all the way on the right seems to be a little too light for it's position. The one in the middle left seems to be farther away than the one on the right. Maybe if you made the one on the right smaller, or darker to push it back or bring it forward.

or perhaps lighten the one in the middle left. And maybe some more contrast in color saturation.

why can't I be you?

Wow.. even though its a room filled with metal men, Its a surprizingly stuning atmosphere. I get the impression that I have been shrunken down and yet still have complete control over my toys.

Sorry to bump this, I just realized I hadn't acknowledged anyone's crits.

Thanks for the helpful comments. The lack of focus comes from lack of planning on this drawing, and also probably because I cropped out the edges, which maybe I should have left in.

Also, looks like the general consensus is that there is still a conflict between line art and painting.

Here's a question, and sort of something I was thinking about while painting - should this get even tighter, or is it too tight and fussy already? I found myself noodling it more than I wanted to.

Again, thanks for the feedback, very helpful.
