Finally finished this piece...it started out as a scribble and a couple of notes on a piece of my sketchpad (I always always write/doodle any idea for a finished piece down no matter how complex (I figure I'll work enough of this art stuff out to one day get what I want down on canvas/computer )), from there I did a pencil rendition to get the idea clearer in my mind
After that I moved onto making a digital painting
The idea behind it is a soldier saying a last farewell to fallen comrades, not leaving till he's finished, even though there's a storm rapidly approaching...Any comments/critiques welcome

I really like the idea! The contrast between the sunset and the incoming storm is cool. The picture's perspective is a bit off. It looks as though he's about to be taken out by a wave. The rocks also look like they are moving vertically instead farther away. I like the colors and the style though! Maybe some whitecaps in the water over in the distance below the storm.

Oh yeah! You shoulda put the grass in from the original pic and made it out of focus! That woulda been cool!

- whats wrong with a feather cap and bagpipes together?

anyway, nice idea and good attempt. one
thing you could do is to desaturate it a
little as it looks v.bright. especially if there is a storm approaching.

The cap depends on the clan I guess...

SPeed3D something that has bugged me from the start of this piece has just hit me - your horizon is tilted to the right.

Otherwise this is the best work I've seen of yours yet.

Black. Yuck. I personally discourage the use of black. Nothing is really black if there's a bit of light. To fit your brewing storm mood, I'd suggest that you use a few cooler greys and darker ones. This would suggest that a storm is arising much more effectively. Also, don't be afraid to use bigger brush strokes on the splashed on the rock.

It's not black, but a dark grey....I was careful not to use black at all :P

it looks a bit different in photoshop (a bit lighter than the resized image)
