Well after teaching myself max and doing a few incomplete low poly models I have finally finished something somewhat complete. So here is my first high poly character done in 3ds Max. Currently doing a few test animations and such to learn character studio.

hmm, where to start.
well its a good concept, or whatever.. uh i doubt that that is low poly though. when creating a lowpoly character meshsmooth is not your friend. just delete the meshsmooth from the stack. If you did not use meshsmooth, then use the optimize modifier.
next, the arms and legs, and chest area are not well defined. make them more cut looking, so you can see some muscle structure. the whole thing just looks like a bunch of blobs. So keep these things in mind when creating a low poly mod. in general, a lowpoly character should not really have more that 1500 faces, but that all depends what the Level Of Detail specs are in the game engine.

Key word in my description of the model is "high poly".

Yeah just did tutorials on the web here and there, read the max user manual and did a few of its tutorials. After awhile you get to know the interface and it isnt so daunting.

Matt yeah I know the model is all a bit dull, it was my first time using nurbs in max and they arent all that user friendly. But overall I just wanted to create a simple model and see if I could animate it. I had no intention of importing it into a game or anything. I have done low poly models before and they are around 700-1200 polys so I know what you are talking about.
