It's just a tesselation. I am still trying to think of a way to include my tesselations into a bigger piece of artwork. Maybe I will try to use them as textures in a 3D app.

In several of Escher's tesslations, he textured the pictures (while still maintaining the identity of each) to have a second picture.
Look and .. Night & Day, I think it is. He has blue and white birds in a tessalation, where the white birds formed a picture of the sun, and the blue ones formed a picture of the moon.
Sort of like, you were looking at a picture through the mesh into two different worlds. Some of the picture is obscured, but you can still make it out.
