So I sat down and started coloring this freeze frame of Gladiator. As I browsed through the movie, I found the colors to be very dramatic. Cinematography is great here...I think I'll do a few more later.

Post your ref ewok Looks great... cept there may be a few things that are a bit odd. First of all, crowe's head looks a bit babyish. This is probably attributed to the forehead and the smape of the head in general. He also looks extremely pale for some reason ... i reckon that it was the winter and snowing at the time...but gosh...he's basicall got all the color drained outta the face

Anyway......enough of negativeness....

the one part I really like are those white greyish straps with the button. They look so cool! But anyway.. yah post ref.

I like the guard on the right, he seemed to be the best. You may want to work small first to get the impression of it, and sort of work bigger as you become more in tuned...Ed--

Me say too! The gestures of the guards are right on, downtrodden tired and hungry. But Russle's expression could use s'more work. I think he looks a bit bewildered.

Maybe DRAWING (or simply) sketching it first will give you a stronger base to work from, before you jump into colors. You can resolve your technical problems that way and then concentrate on the lighting, mood, etc.

Hey ewok, looks good, except for Russel's face. The mood was captured nicely though.

here's the reference. It was a bit dark, so I did some guesswork on some colors..hope I didn't kill the pic because of that. I didn't work with the ref tooo much, thus the unsimilarities. ok..maybe it doesn't excuse the great deal of unsimilarity..oh well

evil: yea, crowe's face is messed up. I added his forehead because I couldn't see it in the clip..I made it wrong:P Is he really that pale?

Eddy:I spent very little time on that guard ed and lots more on Crowe..hehe. What do you mean by work small first?? I thought it was masses then details? or am I not getting you?

Ian: yea..crowe sucks here

yaz, I did a very rough outline. Wasn't concerned with the technical aspects. Only color values. I tried to guess where they were on the wheel.

ako: face ..hehe doh..

thanks for the crits guys. I'm still trying to figure out how to pick colors right..guess I better just practice some more. And ed, if you can be a bit clearer about working small first than bigger, that'd be cool.
