I'm honestly buckling down and trying to figure out how to really draw. In depth critiques would be much appreciated. First is anatomy study taken from the egyptian ref below and a small amount from Micheanglo's "David". The area around the hips doesn't work and I'm not sure why.

Here is an honest doodle-- but I have a question-- does anyone know a site or book talking about the narrative structure of a comic book or childrens illustration book? I'm attempting to tell the viewer as much as I can in one page.

In attempt to develop my own style I'm going for the no refrence attempt at art. The problem here is that all areas don't seem fully united and I lack texture to objects. I want it to look this simplistic (don't get me wrong), but I want to be able to create textures and depth as well.

Thanks in advance for your help!
Greg

Hey don't use egyptian references to try and learn anatomy. Thier art is very early historically and thier anotomy highly stylised and not very good. You need models and tons of practice. Go get some books How to draw Figures kinda books, and get some books with models in them. Models in many different poses. You also NEED to look at references. If ever want to become an accomplished artist you must look at references and the real things. You really need to look at trees, the tree in your last post is quit sad. Trees are just series of V.s breaking off from one another, and the bark texture runs with the length of the tree. You may also want to avoid writing notes all over your work like "the witches ass". It's silly and people aren't sure if you are trying to spoof, probably why no responses to your post.

If you aren't drawing at minimum 20 hours a week, you may reconsider it as any kind of an occupation. At this stage you really should be doing 30 hours or better. Draw everything and lots of it, and avoid the commentaries. Oh and stay away from themes in general tell you feel confident in your drawing. It aint all fun and games, those who love it, work and struggle with it.

sir

I forget who put this link up, (it was one of the absolute legends), anyway as far as anatomy goes this is definitely worth your while to check it out if you haven't already.
(I have it in my "favourites")
