Thanks to hamster for the hosting for this forum, this is a test. ummm testing 123. Goodbrush bandwidth is going to break the bank, and this will help out a lot. Thanks again hamster.

This was done from a picture in a history texbook. It was a little bronze statue that had such a neat helmet that it just drew itself.

back to 500. I am on 15, doing them in order.

Ack! *chokes*

The colours in this one... Mm... might possibly be my favourite ones - I just love those tones of green.

Only possible crit I can think of is that I can't really tell what's going on with the bottom of the picture, with the clothes of the character. But really... that doesn't even bother me that much Very sweet picture!

Every time I see your work, I frown and fume; my face turns green, and I clench my fists--then I say, in a voice thick with unladylike envy: "That damnable drawing machine is at it again!" (I love your work.)

I really like the gritty detail on the front of the helmet--it's a nice touch. Perhaps the coastline & the nether regions of the figure could use some resolution, to bring them to the level of the amazing helmet...but I'm sure you'll get to that in time.... *Bites tongue just in time to avoid finishing that last sentence with "...all-seeing and all-knowing art god"*

Damn, but I'm jealous. I know it's not NICE to be jealous, and not productive either, but I am.

The colors remind me of your King Uther pic. Thats my favoret, the King Uther.

Im a bigger fan of your rough quick loose paintings than the other clean precise paintings. My style is more loose, that is probably why.

I try and look at your painting to see the different brush strokes and maybe your opacity setting on some of them, But I cant realy make them out. Thats a good thing.

Good texture on the helmet. How long does something like that take. The textured part at the edge of the Bright highlite and the shadow. It looks complecated.

Good stuff. You ever gana do any more Aurthirian paintings. Thats some good stuff there.

the wrong edge of the "brushthing" on the helmet looks closer...
I can be mistaken

otherwise - best...
texture on the helmet is perfect
way to go

Spooge Demon,

Very evocative.

If you're interested in this type of subject matter, I would recommend Frank Miller's 300. Done with ink and brush, and water colour wash. Wonderful storytelling.

Yeah, I agree with Ime, the left side of the brush seems to need backlighting or somthing, but Damn this pic is intense. You paintings are more powerful than any medium I have ever seen. It seems to surpass the most intense movie, videogame, ride, I have ever experienced

Nice work Craig... The pseudo-texture of the helmet is great...I like how you took the focus off the rest of the figure by reducing the detail [on the cloak] and redirected it to the helmet.

hey craig, is there any way I could get you to speak for a few seconds about cool and warm light, and shadows?

If the light on an object is warm, will the shadow always be cool regardless of the object?

what does a warm shadow look like? Is it just any warm hue? Red can be cool can't it? Is that only when a little blue is mixed in with it?

your probably too busy painting so I won't be upset if you don't reply

The top arch thing over the helmet looks off to me. Shouldn't the right side of it appear to be shorter width than the left side considering the angle he is standing?

Why? Why not me?
On your site you say that you use personalized brushes. I know that the material doesn't make the artist but is there a possibility of you posting a few of them to get the idea. Cause I tried making my own and that all went to hell so I've been using the circles ever since.
Thanks
Eric

Reminds me of Frank Miller's "300" series. Quality comic for anyone who hasn't checked it out.

Eric: somehow magically, some of Craig's older brushes popped up from nowhere and I took a look at them. They were not really something special - the specialness (whattaword!) comes out of Craig's wrist ...

So, I humbly suggest instead of waiting for Craig to answer, use the time and experiment with your very own custom brushes some more - don't give up on them custom brushes are definetely necessary, but I believe in making my own, since then I know exactly how to use them ... and the need to make them arises often in the middle of a painting ...

give it one more try!

Loki

PS: no, I don't have Craig's brushes anymore ... please don't ask ...

wow, I'm trying to deconstruct this image, and the first thing I noticed was the all the "texture" that was laid down in the early phases. If you squint your eyes, it looks like a photograph, great stuff!
You really should think about using this stuff you do for fun and putting it all together with a short story. I'm sure you could certianly tie it all in with an amazing story.
