Precisely what the subject says....
Actually, the intent here was to draw someone who is not conventionally beautiful, but possessed of great strength of character, instead. (And to draw clothing with lots of folds! Whee!)
And some details--not full-size, but closer:
This took longer than I'd intended, because I kept having to stop and do my homework. Stupid, stupid school creatures!

Hey, I made up a joke:
Q: Why don't goths go to McDonald's?
A: They might get a HAPPY MEAL!
Heh, heh, heh. |

Wow...I'm really stunned. It's awesome. How long did this take you to create? You make it sound like you just did it in one night between doing homework... I'm jealous, of course.
It's a beautiful painting. I love this board.

Looks good. Though it needs more of a light source on the charater. At the moment the light looks very even. Also the darkness of shadows in the folds is the same allround. There needs to be variations of light and dark in the shadows, but that depends on the lightsource. More variations of highlights and colour too.
Her face is good, but it looks like its been squashed thin. stretch it out a bit more and see what you get. The same with the arm. Looks way too thin.
It has a very dark and enigmatic mood. Stronger defiable lighting on the character would enhance that mood. I like the exspresion on her face btw

I don't think you've jacked anyones style. You and enayla might have some elemets which are similar but you still have quite different styles...and can be told apart with ease
Please don't stop drawing, I love your stuff. They're so full of emotions somehow

Wow, this is amazing, I love the detail on everything, and I think it was worht the 8 hours.
I also love how the moon in the backround is kinda visible, but doesn't stand out like a spot light
Keep up the wonderful work.. I love it.

Oooh, I've really been looking forward to this! It turned out great. Reminds me of a melted candle. I love the tree, by the way.
About the comment daz199 made: total bollocks. You do hair similarly to Enayla. It's flowing and colourful, and great to look at. And that's it. I'd like to think that people aren't assuming that hair is the be all and end all of art. It'd take a blind oaf to not be able to see the differences between your style and hers. The pair of you both have a very distinct, individual look about your work. Where Enayla's is beautiful and magical, yours it haunting and intriguing. Where she breaths life and into her creations with strong, emotional colours, you define your the feeling of your art with subtler, moodier hues. The subjects the two of you draw and the situations you choose to present them are as different as bricks and cotton wool, similar only in that the final results of your labours are a pleasure to behold. Jacked styles, indeed. Utter nonsense. You both rock, in totally different ways. |

I like this one too. Nice compostion and technique. One problem I see with it though is the dress. Her dress, nearing the bottom, looks more like mud, or a thick liquid than clothing. The upper part of the dress was done well but nearing the floor it starts to look awkward. You may have done it intentionally tho so my opinion may not hold much value. Nice work ![](http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/smile.gif) |

I'll just stick to straight critique as I'm sure you'll get enough praise from this thread without my help.
A few things, then: her back seems to have an odd shape, it almost seems to be missing the other half. The light falloff there seems to be a bit odd, you migth want to make a tad more visible. Also, and this may just be my preference for chunky shapes speaking, I think the folds could be a tad sharper, especially at the bottom.
EDIT: Regarding the back, have a look at how the spine curves and then at where the hips are...

Yeah..definitely worth the 8 hours. How do you do the hair like that? It is very beautifully done, I think.

Thanks, everyone--especially those who were kind enough to provide useful crits...While I'm quite sick to death of this particular image, all the advice will come in very handy for the one I've currently got in progress. This one was actually done for a really ANNOYING assignment for drawing class (something about anatomical exaggeration for effect, hence the rail-thin aspect of the figure), so it didn't mean too much to me....
I feel silly admitting this, but the dress was supposed to be stylized so that the folds somewhat resembled the petals of the lilies. (Didn't really work. Oops.)
And...for somethingwonderful--The hair? Well, it went something like this...I drew the shadows in dark gray, then...more shadows over top, in purple and blue. And then, I think, some yellow highlights. Or maybe they were blue. (Could've been both.) I don't know. I wasn't paying too much attention. (This is why I'm not going into teaching....)

Whoa...what can one say about something this wonderful...or creepy
Looks like she's been on a diet for the last 6 months though...but it adds a certain something to the character...
I looooove it!

somethingwonderful--It actually took almost eight hours, spaced out over 4 days or so...I'd have done it all at once, had it not been for all the stupid HOMEWORK. Thanks, by the way....
daz199--I did not 'jack' anyone's style. I've been drawing in this style on and off for a very long time. It's comments like this that make me want to stop drawing entirely. I don't try/want to draw like anybody else. If people can't tell my style from other people's, perhaps it's time I hung up my hat. Who knows? At any rate, I wanted to say that I didn't steal anything, not style, not inspiration, not subject matter. |
