So i thought I'd paint something tonight.. kinda slipped back into doing monochromes. Yea seriously.. i think everyone, if they haven't already, should try a grayscale painting.. it's kinda nice and challenging

Anyway, I looked at a mirror a bit while doing this, I guess it's a self portrait in subject and in mood. Hm. I was listening to some music by this guy, Master Control while i was painting. Nice guy.. met him once.. dark techno stuff did it for me tonight.

Commments and critiques are welcome as always

you know - she looks really frightening!
the bug eyed look and looking over her shoulder. I cant make up my mind if I should be scared of her or what she's looking at.

I hope I did not just bash your image cause I really do like it.

Heehee color and I dont get along too well, so I tend to paint in black and white when I paint at all

Beautiful as always You did a great job with the eyes and lips. The Portrait is obviously stylized, but it's definitely you.

Great job

I love this style where the brush strokes interlace with each other and the forground merges with the background. I like the shadows and highlights. Very piercing look. Nice work!

Wow, thanks guys! I wasn't expecting so many replies

MunkY c mUnkY Du: *blush* I used a mirror.. my little compact on the speaker, on the keyboard, and at arm's length. I didn't want to use a bigger mirror, I thought it would be kind of interesting to paint feature by feature rather than the whole face. Besides that, it was less frustrating than seeing everything at once

Blitz: Yea, by all means, try it. You know that Shadow painting? I did that from a black background and added white. That's an interesting technique to try too Umm.. here.

topeira: I looked at the mirror for brief moments to get the lighting right and stuff.. used the mirror on and off for about half the time I spent on the image.. then when all the technical stuff was pretty much done, I forgot about the mirror and had some fun on the lighting of everything but the face. All straight on the computer, yea, Photoshop (yay!)

SoMK: LOL.. actually.. I did this last year:

That's such a cool photo. I wonder what the photographer must've been thinking.. going to some foreign, poor country (from what it looked like) and taking a picture of these incredible eyes..

bigtex: Yes, and your little dog too! *cackle* Actually, she's more freaked out herself, i think. Wasn't really thinking about anything sensible while doing this pic.

Luna: Thanks I stepped back for a little while and couldn't believe I did something like that.. it was crazy.

Nova, This - I like. A lot.

The grey scale is also nicely used here, And for some reason, the first thing that reminded me of that picture was Alice.

This is awesome, hope you keep up the good work, Im sure you will..

heh; that right eye looks like it's poking fair outa your head. The whole *startled* thing is great though. Has a sort of gothic horror feel; "Maiden attending to a noise from the shadows" or some such

You have a beautiful feel for the human face
But, the eye's are just a little too exagerated. If your interested, there is a
fantastic book on facial expressions. The
author is Gary Faigin. the name of the book is
The Artists Guide to Facial Expresssions. This
is(in my humble opinion) the best book on the
market for trully accurate face expresssions! The ISBN number is: 0-8230-1628-5
I'd love to see you do a faces in color! Catnip

Awesome, black and white compliments it well. Can imagine it being in some scary film where she looks over here shoulder and theres a long screeching violin noise...mhmm.
I think it looks even creepier that the eyes dont look particularly natural. I just like it.

[edit]-I need to take my time on typing.
