I have been around this forum for a while, but never posted anything. I am an engineering major at the U of A, but have never taken any art classes, although I do like to draw. I drew this freehand with the paintbrush tool and the burn tool, and am still learning how to use photoshop. I cheated on the background and used filters. Anyway, crits are welcome, because I really don't have any idea what I am doing.

Dreaming of that face again.
It's bright and blue and shimmering.
Grinning wide
And comforting me with it's three warm and wild eyes.

Great start. A common misonception on trees is that they always gradient from dark to light... beacuse they are of course a sphere. But keep in mind there are a lot of open spaces in between and the leaves cast shadows and recieve light here and there..
... ok just looked at it again..and i can see your trying to get that in.....but the leaves are definitely too dense n small.. makes the tree look gigantic.
second of all, the perspective on the tree with the crass is wrong. Keep in mind that the grass blades should be getting bigger as it gets closer to the camera

Anyway... hope you aren't disappointed. just keep trying and keep in mind that.. (according to good ol vortx) that trees and ROOTS are the hardest things to draw.. so start with something easier

I think the dropshadow is to short. Should be longer according to the direction of the light.
Maybe try and go out and look at trees in real life to get a more "natural" look on the trees. And the leaves are to "blocky" and dense. Try making several layers with the back layer first and move on forward.

Yeah I see how I screwed up the shadows now that you guys mentioned it. I didn't actually look at a tree when I drew most of this, but I probably should have. Thanks for the critiques.

Sweet picture! That's the first time I've actually dug a tree pic
It's almost... peaceful... *sigh!* the only thing I would focus
more on is the horizon... it's too "in-focus" and straight, I'd
blur it up and maybe through some lo-contrast landscaping.
Regardless, you obviously have talent (either that or a wacom)
Just playin, Anyway --- KEEP IT UP!!
