I was watching the DVD again today, and look what I found, there are two more that I know of, one at the beggining, and one at the end. I gave up on the one at the begining.
They are just appear really quick, for some reason, I just noticed all the ones I am posting here today. I'm only on scene 7, and I'm trying to pause on the ones I find and get screen shots.... I'll post more if I find them.
Check this. (Tyler is not supposed to be in them.

Umm, duh?
Saw it in the theater as well, he appears subliminally several times. Listen to the audio commentary, they (Finch, Pitt and Norton) spot out most of them. It's easier to spot in the DVD/VHS version, lower fps (at least for the PAL version, instead of 30 it's 24)
I'm assuming you saw the penis spliced into the very last frame before the end credits as well? Unless you live in a country that endorses censorship, that is... |

"Fight Club" is the name of a movie. There are scenes in the movie where Tyler (Brad Pitt) just appears in them. The first 5 times or so that I watched the movie I missed these, I just never even saw them. But today, for some reason, I started to see them. So I paused when they appeared. That's what you're seeing. GO watch the movie. You should like it. |

arg, yeah, I saw quite a lot of them when I watched the movie in the cinema. At first I thought I am just seeing things, but afterwards I read that they actually put him in all the time for a splitsecond to fuck with your mind.
Great movie =] |

Heh. That's insane. And illegal, sort of.
The FCC has a standing ban on all subliminal messages in movies and on TV. |

Yeah, well, hehehe. The person who host's my site isin't supposed to host my site. Hehe, I use my friend's FTP address on the person's site for my page, so basically, two sites from one account, the person hates me for taking up all that bandwith i guess, who knows. He deleted my website, and all my pictures blah, it's all on my HD though. If i had somewhere to put them i would show you. sorry! |

Ooops. It's the not the FCC that hates them. It's the ATF.
New Rules and Regulations, U.S. Treasury Department Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms, August 6, 1984
One prevalent form of subliminal technique [is] the insertion of words or body forms by the use of shadows or shadowing, or the substition of forms or shaps generally associated with the body... The consumer does not perceive them at the level of conscious awareness, and thus is given no choice whether to accept or reject the message, as is the case with normal advertising. ATF holds this type of advertising is false and deceptive and prohibited by law.
Frame-long shots of Pitt are okay, but look at the third picture. The shadowy guy on the left definitely looks like a penis. |

he! yeah I remember those flashes. Actually John Carpenter did a movie some years back which dwelved on those subconcious messages. It was about aliens living among us but hidden from our eyes, and they were bombarding the human race with signs, text and messages that said it 'OBAY'! pretty decent B-movie. It's called 'skjulte jne' in danish but I've forgot what the original title was. And if I'm not mistaken - Stephen King also wrote a novel based on this. Can't remember that title either. oh well...

So I think these laws apply to using subliminal messaging for advertising purposes. A penis in Fight Club does not, therefore, count. And besides, in order for subliminal messaging to actually work, the same frame needs to be cycled several times (hundreds) throughout the movie. So it would only work with full-lenght movies anyway...
Read an interesting study about this once; they tested subliminal messages by placing "Buy Mars-bars", or something like that in the frames of a movie, repeated over an over. After the movie, a bunch of people from the test group went out and bought Mars from the concession stand. Also, almost everyone admitted to having increased feelings of wanting chocolate. That is why subliminal messages are illegal (in advertising). |

Yep. Subliminal messaging is still quite prevalent in movies, music videos, and commercials still. If you ever get the chance, watch a Special-K commercial frame by frame, or even backwards. There's all sorts of weird masking shots, and the symbol K in the shadows. It's all very odd and scary. |

That mars-bars experiment is a sort of urban legend, there are examples were they hid subliminal messages like "drink coke" and "eat popcorn". However, there are no real documented and verified experiments that prove beyond a doubt that subliminal advertising works. Even if it had worked in the 50's before it was banned, isnt it surprising that we havent had any whistle-blowers who exposed the devaint and dishonest advertising agencies? |
