First try! Hope this works!

This image was done for a personal project! Sub and background were drawn separately with markers and acrylic, then finished and put together in Photoshop. 10"X20" or 50cmX25cm.

Al;

Is the personal project a book? I asked you about the possibility of a book of your work ages ago (2 years?) and you mentioned that you would have to make more personal images for it.

Great stuff anyway, although I'd still like to see you put much larger images on your site.

Row.

Thanks for your kind words and visits!

Hate to admit it but I did not detail this image as much as I normally do so I am a little embarrassed and kept it small so it is not too obvious.

I wanted to show a fishermans sub navigating through a kelp forest. The cranes in the back of the sub are used to reel in the nets. The large windows under the sub allow the fishermen to see what are below them. Like most of the images I have done lately, I use both traditional and digital techniques. I will use whatever method that will allow me to finish an image the quickest.

I am still working on a book on my free time. These designs and illustrations take a long time to generate. Since I do need to raise a family and spend quality time with them, my hobby is coming alone way too slowly.

Anyone know of a Sci-Fi publisher that may be interested in my type of work?

Just updated the image. Spent some time this past weekend adding more details to the water surface and the kelps in the background in Photoshop.

Thanks guys!

Loukus; I met Doug Chiang while I was freelancing at LucasArts a while back before the new Star Wars projects started. Got to see some of Dougs amazing paintings. He has a brother who is a brilliant car designer working for Ford. He does unbelievable car sketches. Two of the most talented designers Ive ever met.

Lukias; Almost all of my drawings started with markers, then I will take them to different degree of finish either by hands or in computer. Both the sub and the background were done separately with markers and acrylic then scanned, put together and detailed in Photoshop.

Hey Al,
Glad to see ya made it to the forums. Didn't I tell ya there were some very talented people here. I was a bit worried that you wouldn't be able to stop by for being so busy, but I'm glad I see you did. Of course I love your work and am quite jealous as well. :P Hope to see more as time goes by.

I like what you have on your web site. The style doesn't resemble Chiang's in any way. It's more like Mead with that squared look.

Oblagon! There is a little bit of Mead in every industrial/entertainment designer. Ever since my brother showed me his work while I was at Art Center, I have hoped that I could have a career like his. I think all of us would like to thank him for what he has contributed to the art and design communities.
