I started painting this a few days ago, working on it between hours. She is a character for a 3D project I am working on. Though I may play around with a few more concepts.

Here is the original sketch if you haven't seen it http://www.sijun.com/dhabih/ubb/Forum5/HTML/001220.html
There are probably a few flaws, but I'm too lazy to fix them. Anyway, tell me what you think.

cheers!

Jesus Christ, feel free to compress your images...

Asides from it's utter bigness, it's a great piece man...my only crit would be the hand holding the sword looks a bit awkward as do the feet. (I think mainly the right foot, perhaps it should face out instead of in?)
The face is really nice, you also used the textures on her leather clothes quite succsesfully. Other than these few things, this is a really nice painting. Cheers.

This is really good ! I really liked the sketch you posted but this coloring is just great !
Excellent leather textures, skin, sword...

Hey dudes! Just checking to see things are ok.

schabe: Thanks man.

Ian: Yeah I realised just now when my computer almost died uploading! I've place a more compressed image. The hand is holding the sword by the handle so the blade is touching the ground. So the arm is lowered and the hand is slightly twisted up in a kind of awkward wanking position! As for the foot I shoulda changed that in the sketch. But I am crap at drawing so left it alone. The sandstone textures were smudged to conceal that 'orrible linear pattern.
Charybde: Thanks. As for backgrounds I experimented with some environments and patterns, but it took the focus way offset from the character. I was gonna go with a flat colour but decided to do some subtle fx.

gotta go!

laters.

Very nice! I love the colour scheme. One crit...the hair looks a little solid. Perhaps less of an outline or carry that dark into some shadows inside.

Hey every one!

Eric: Thanks. I have made the hair less plastic-like and blended the outline, so it should look better now.
Boomstick: cheers! I've just finnished a new background. It should fit in alot better then the old one.
Jezebel: Thanks
daz199: Already done it, thanks for that.
Lukias: LOL! You're right! I could imagine Bugs Bunny poking his head out from behind her "errrr...what's up daaaaak!!"
Lunatique: Thanks. I always begin painting the face. I think it's the most important part of the character. So I try to get it as best I can. Cheers! already added the hair strands and fixed the right foot (by popular demand!) I'm working on the rest at the moment.
I'll post the new one up a.s.a.i.f.

cheers!

Nicely done , I especially like the different materials on the woman.

However, for me the background and the woman don't fit together. She seems studio lit (pretty bright and even). The background might have too high contrast and saturation. Also that really bright patch of light through the clouds makes me think that she's sunlit from behind, so with that background I expect to see her backlit in kinda a dark sillouhette with the shadow coming towards me.

Yeah he's right, its a cool BG but the lighting doesn't fit. perhaps some snowy mountain pass?.
A morning light seems to fit......hmmm let me dwell on this.

No complaints, looks good.

The hair is kind of *well* different, compared to the rest of the picture.

IMHO she's WAY too white for a barbarian type chick who would be out in the sun and with the sun reflecting off the snow so much (look at eskimos or any other northern outdoor types).

She needs a serious tan.

Dirtydigger: If you think her colours are so illogical why don't you crit her litlle bikini too...look at eskimoes ...they don't wear bikinis in the snow...hahaha..I mean this is art dude! And BTW she's a readhead...and they're supposed to have light skin!

I really like her face; soft and feminine. excellent job! Most artists can't do attractive female faces to save their lives. The typical female face I see people draw/paint look like the subject's been severely beaten with an ugly stick. Even when using photo-reference, they still manage to uglify it somehow. . ..

I think if you add some runaway strands in her hair, it'll look even more natural.

Her right foot needs to look more like a right foot. It could be a left foot with very minor change as it is now.

Her knuckles/fingers on her right hand needs to be more defined, especially that she's gripping a sword. I would make her knees more defined too. She is a warrior afterall, no matter how beautiful she is.

The sword needs sharper reflective highlights. Metal is a highly reflective surface, and there should be glares.

Her loincloth needs to conform more to the shape/curve of her thigh.

Great work overall though. Keep it up!

nicely done and very smooth looking but i think it would add to the character and the pic. in general if you gave some what of a backround or maybe just a ground. she is hot though, so i give you that....he he.

Back again!

Kreuze: cheers! Yeah I thought about the backlit sunlight thing. I was gonna use the background for something else, but thought it matched the picture well so I just threw it in. The studio lit lighting comes from the hard light and shadows on her. I imagined it to be strong sunlight (another reason why the background doesn't fit!) I'll play around sommore.
Lukias: Yeah, I thought about snow. It would match the lightness of the figure.
Dthind: thanks. As for the hair I tried to get it between realistic and cartoony. It's the style in which she is painted in. Cartoony outlines and strong saturated colours along with semi realistic shading.
LeChuck: cheers man!
DirtyDigger: As the title suggests she is a Lady. I tried to get a mixture of fair-skinned slim built, gentle face woman, and gave her a great big tattoo, animal skins, and a sword to suggest a warrior part of her. Also what CFG said. Redheads usualy have really fair skin.
Capt.FlushGarden: Yup!
kaosAD: Thanks! I think the modern look is due to what I explained to DirtyDigger. She looks like a glamor model suited and booted in a warriors kit. I wanted to create a warrior chick that looked a little different from the rest. Also the sharp contrast and semi cartoony style may contribute to a modernish picture.
Tommy: Thanks man!
mellowsmoothe: Thanks. But I'm not sure what you mean in your comment. Are you refering to the first version?

Okey dokey! I'll play around with the background and see what I get for B or for W.
Watch this thread!

cheers.

You might be right. Looking at it again, 3rd looks too dark (black). I like the sunlight thing, but the lighting doesn't correspond with the figure. Heck! I might splice the two together and see what I get! Though no more image postings! I promise!

Yeppers, That's exactly what I kinda meant is what you said. That she looks like a model who walked off the street and put on some skins... (as opposed to being out in the weather all the time and catching more rays).

If that's what you were shooting for then you hit it.

I don't know if I sounded harsh or not, but I looked at it and just jotted down the first thing that I noticed that was standing out. Figured maybe since you'd been working on it you didn't see that yourself (as I often can't see things after working on something for a long time)

I think The pic looks great.

As for you Capt. go draw some more kick ass pics and stop bashing my love of bikinis and legs
