Getting rid of those Elvis vinyl LP's?

I don't support Napster or the people who leech to death from it, but it might be a good idea to 'try before you buy' by taking down a few songs/albums and seeing what they're worth to you... THEN go out and buy the ones that float your boat.

bleh, what you listed wouldn't classify as Rave/Techno, so what I am going to list is not gonna be that kinda music [but I love Crystal Method, maybe you like what I'll propose]:

Rave: RMB, old stuff, old stuff... [more than 6 years or so]

Techno: Hmm, well no artist specifically but all "Technodrome" compilations rock. I have 6 out of 8 and I love them all.

Also, get on napster and search for Mayday 2001, you're goin to find great livesets. The Mayday is the worlds biggest indoor Techno event with about 30000 people every time :P I got a 340 MB liveset which covers 6 hours of the mayday. Great stuff...

Also, Westbam is my favourite DJ... some people don't like him. It's very back to the roots with heavy focus on the beats.

Are you saying what I listed isn't rave/techno?

I have some Astral Projection MP3s, funny stuff...mp3.com is a good place to download songs. I found some ambient, erie, space-noise music that I think they call "darkwave." Definitely something different.

Bradford: Sorry no, I was replying to Silico's post Paul Oakenfold rules!

edit: Some more good electronical stuff: Marusha [i love her, so shoot me], and if you want something more like Crystal Method or other electronical bands check out: "Console - Rocket in the Pocket" best album evar! One of the purchases I will never regret and every friend that I introduced to it totally loves it ...even my dad likes it

Wow, Bradford.. 5 of those you listed are my favorites!

mm.. 'chilling music'? I'll do my best..

- Orbital (!)
- DJ Micro (the album with the ice blue cover.. i think it's Trance Mix 2000)
- DJ Keoki
- Unkle (more tweaked out vocal than techno-rave)
- ATB (bigger beats and vocal)

I'll second Paul Oakenfold, DJ Icey, Paul van Dyk and Astral Projection

Impaler: Yes I use electronical, cuz sometimes I just don't know if something is superhardcoretechnoprogressive or just triphopambiencemellow whateva... :P

I'm too lazy to keep up with all those rad terms the youth these days is coming up with.

Hardfloor
Der Dritte Raum
Jaa
Josh Wink
Bassline Baby
Cari Lekebush
Photek
Dj EBO

the list could, of course, go on forever

Well, for chillout, my favorite is definetly Jose Padilla. His Ibiza-sets are very nice and heard him live last summer :-)

I think when it comes to the current electronic-scene, the Global Underground mixes are something that pretty accurately portray what's going on. Also the older Northern Exposure mixes from Digweed & Sasha are top quality.

I'm not much into Oakenfold or Van Dyk these days. The Vorsprung Dyk Technik '94-'98 from Van Dyk was nice with alot of classics, but they both have gone pretty weird these days. Oakenfold's 'Travelling' was a nice mix tho'.

Currently I've begun to go through C64 / Kraftwerk / Jarre discs and I'm not going back :-)

it's a pretty broad request. Most that's been mentioned so far is kind of groove or hard house or techno. If you want to get really chilled stuff the two ways I'd go are the trip hop and the IDM (intelligent dance music)
Trip hop style you've got: Massive Attack, Tricky, the Aloof, Red Snapper, Rae & Christian etc

IDM you've got: -ziq, some Aphex Twin, some squarepusher, pansonic, Matmos and Autechre; particularly their earlier stuff off "Incunabula", "Amber" right through to "Tri repeatae"

Inbetween those styles you've got folks like Lamb and Faultline

all very cool if you know what I mean.

If you want to try some actual techno:

Jeff Mills
Derrick May
Juan Atkins
Carl Craig
Kevin Saunderson
Deepchord
Underground Resistance
Robert Hood
Daniel Bell
Alan Oldham
Oliver Ho
Heiko Laux

Techno isn't actually a blanket term for synthesized music though, it refers to a specific sound developed in Detroit in the mid eighties. Detroit techno gave rise to trance and jungle, but those genres are distinct enough now that purists like myself would give you a hard time for calling them techno

as for where to get it: www.planetxusa.com

Its pricey, but often the only place I can find a lot of records. They have real audio of everything, so its worth checking out just to listen.

And hey, download /my/ tracks while you're at it: http://www.bprince.com/music.html

if you think that some more melodic trance might be your thing and don't want to sift through the MASSES and MASSES of pure SHIT that makes trance seem like bad music to not-so-involved people, go check out these people and projects:

system f/ferry corsten
armin van buuren
dj tiesto
gouryella
veracocha
vincent de moor
insigma
signum
rank1
flutlicht

to name just a few, which are mostly 4 or people in different combinations anyway
