Okidoki. I`m done with a scifi pic with gunz and spaceships in a wide format but it might very probably be used for Anarchy Online marketing...thus I must wait a bit until marketing department allows me to post it:-(

While you wait for something "non-medievil" from me..I`ll show you my latest badass dude with axe. (Yes it does have some resemblence to Frazettas Death dealer, but it beats conan every day)

But I think it`s better that the grimmest reaper..more dynamic.

Waddaya guys think?

I really like it... well, I guess you get sick bout those comments...

Maybe it's just me, but I think the flesh colours look better with your new style

critique:

The glowing effect out of the helmet somehow doesn't fit the rest of your picture...

Being a fan of your work,
this 1 doesn't hit the mark for me
Just isn't intriging as your other peices of work..
altho exploring a new styles is wicked, this 1 isn't as good a the grim reaper

This is all IMHO

[e]aye have to agree the glow on the helmet and the actually helmet looks really odd[/e]

Nah, I like it a bunch. It's different from your other works. And just because the helmet is unusual, it doesn't mean it's not effective. Looks dangerous and evil.

Great picture, Vebjrn.

The reason I made it blue was to make it more visual and give him a kinda unatural glow.
But it might just be my eyes.. I`ll try red/orange/yelloglow later, just to check if it indeed will fit better.

nice! I like this style a lot. I agree with Ed that the lighting is reminiscent of the old Dutch paintings. Do more like this!

Damn you Veb. Damn you to hell. Why do you always have to go and out do yourself? Well At least in my opinion anyways. Even for experimenting. Well it looks great. By the way, is you sight still up or moved or anything, cause I tried the link in your profile and it didn't work. Well keep them paintings coming. I know I'll be looking forward to them.

Veb this looks great but I agree with ed the blue looks wack...hmmm I think it should be more of a magical and etherial glow rather then like there being a light bulb in his helmet. This new style of yours is very very impressive . I think your old style was more practiced but this new style should turn out to be most impressive once you go though a few painting and get your technique worked out.

Wow, this is even better than your last batch of the new style. Very cool, although I do agree about that contrasting glow. It seems to be unnatural, but still looks very cool. I would like to see more of him though, but I guess the mystery adds to the overall wonder if the piece.

I love this one, veb. Everything is great, there's such a malevolent feeling about this character. He's stalking somewhere, crouched and ready to strike. And the new style is fantastic. A+ work.

Veb, the new style *really* works for me. Of course, I wasn't complaining about your other work, but this new style really has a lot of bite. The more textured look really looks raw and edgey... it feeds the eye and suits the subject better. To my eye, this is a real leap in visual sophistication!

Did you do this in Painter, or is this one of your oils?

Technique wise - it's a giant leap from your past work..It looks like egg tempara(sp?) - pre-oil paint days, and the texture reminds me of the way egg tempara would dry rather than oils. I've looked at some of the egg tempara paintings while visiting Germany - near Schwarzewalde (sp?) and the paintings were incredible and very archaic looking..your painting reminds me of it little. I don't like the blue glow - cuz it looks to be an afterthought. The skulls and the layering of shadows on top of them are quite nice...yeah, that's called editing and you have really done it nicely. Also, the lighting is very Dutch notion - Rembrandesque. Ed--

Wicked! I really like this new style. Reminds me of ancient paintings on walls, telling of mystic legends, etc. This character is really great! He kinda reminds me of a medieval "Boba Fett" with the sinister helmet and the collection of skulls as oposed to wookie scalps! I can imagine some kinda lion/dragon creature in a ready to pounce stance, on the right side *that doesn't exist* This has alot more style and mood than the conan stuff.

Thanks for the comments.
The style`s here to stay and evolve.

It`s done like this:
1. I make a pencil drawing.. some of the sketches are posted on my site.
I scan these and use photoshop for the rest.I don`t like using painter for these.
2. I increase contrast and add a few textures(pictures of rocks, papers, concrete, etc.using various layer options, and other adjustments.) And get the optimal look and color. Then work in the detail I feel is needed for it.

I think I like this one even more than your usual work, vebjorn.

There's just a very appealing gloominess to it. Makes me think of dark autumn nights and the howl of the wind.

Veb you are a great artist but you're getting to close with your style and ideas
to Frazzeta
It doesn't seem fresh or innovative just a repaint
The Death Dealer - The Scull collector
almost the same guy with the same outfit in a different package....
I may be wrong but that's what I think it is

Veb, count me among the impressed. The link in your profile didn't work for me. Where can I see more of your stuff? And let me put my vote in right now for a tutorial on this new style of yours!

Ankart:I never claimed it to be very new and innovative;-)or a very original character.

But the only real resemblance to the Death Dealer is in fact the horns. (and maybe the general feeling of doom and him having an axe)
But then again..thats enough to make people add 2+2 and get 4. It`s damn hard making any character with horns pointing that way not resemble Frazettas deathdealer one way or the other, but I should still be allowed to paint horns going that way too,if I think they look best that way or should I not?
Offcourse I could drop having the horns like that, make a far duller image, but since I wanted to make it as cool as possible, I opted to stick with a little Deathdealer like resemblance.

My two cents.

This new style of yours is fantastic Veb!
The contrasting blue glow really brings this one to life, and this sort of background is much better than the reapers.
Keep it up!
