So here's finally a new picture.
Got a bit inspired by war this time (seeing stuff from Enemy at the Gates, etc....). So I wanted to capture some of the madness of the WW1 battles. And that all in one pic (as you see)!
Started up with one single 1" photo of a uniform as reference, but came over more some days later and had to change it all (and add stuff).
Sort of got stuck with the mood here. The whole thing ended up with 20 layers. Most of them are smoke layers you wont even notice and I spent too much time just tweaking over a cup of coffee. The pic itself (the lads) got done in a hurry....
It's maybe a bit too much going on here....?

I absolutely love this picture. The ONE thing that bugs me a bit about it, is the blood spray on that one dough boys face. If you defined it more at the bottom (where the blood is closest to the face) by making it look more solid, and left the rest as is, it might help it a bit. Except for that one minor thing, this is one nice pic.

i like it a lot. i've done a picture on the seoncd WW once but in a much different style. this pic is cool. it's a shame it's pretty small though.

and i don't like the blood spray too. i think it should have expanded from the point where the head gets shot to a bigger blur in the end of the spray. also i think the blood cloud should be BEHIND the head. not in front as if the blood sprays from the exit wound.

nice job!

Thanks for your feedback so far!
Yes, gseegert and topeira, you're right, the blood thing is bugging me as well. I don't believe it matters where in the face this guy is shot (it wouldn't be clear in the blur anyway and blood squirts in mysrerious ways (uh)), but I think the problem is that this spray turned out as a major focal point in the pic (which was not a purpose), so I dimmed slightly. Hope it looks fine now (sun is shining into the room and I can't see a thing on this dark picture - even with a big towel over my head and screen ).
Btw topeira: You were right, it was too small (50% of original size), so I resized it to 70% (it's atleast not that small anymore). I just didn't want to fill up my space on the server....

Here (refresh if you have to):

Is there a difference? Let me know what you think!

I like the chaotic mood of it and the muddy colours and the format and everythin' :p... just one thing, I have a problem to decipher the part with the face of the second character and the "end" on the gun canon just under his nose... I understand the perspective but it's kinda hard to read, maybe if he was a bit more blended in the backgroundt colour... ? *maybe it's just me, hey,I'm just pointing out things on a painting I would be in trouble to make, muahahaa*

Pretty nice! I like ww1/ww2 themes. (enemy at the gates is ww2 btw). Anyways here are the crits.. Even though you are trying to capture a feeling of motion, I think the pic could use some nice hard solid edges.

And if you had not mentioned, that this was a WW1 pic, I wouldn't had known. Maybe the colors are too saturated, or I don't know really.

Well, since I'm in, I might as well add a reply.
Thanks again for crits.

SoMK: I don't really understand what you mean.... Try again.
Binke: Yes, I know Enemy at the Gates is ww2, but it *inspired* me (only) and I picked ww1 instead because of the crazy battlefield stuff.
Sorry you can't see it's ww1 though (it's the right gear (reference used!), blown away trees and people with hair in the face (must be ages ago ) on a battlefield (must be ages ago too).
What's missing....? I wasn't there.
As for the colour thing, this reminds me of the Calvin and Hobbes gag where Calvin's father tells Calvin there didn't exist any colours in the old days....
(Er, sorry.... just had to.)
