In responce to the above question give to me by my girlfriend after seeing most of my other stuff, and the fact that today is her birthday, I made her this background. She's loves butterflies.
I don't like the antennae that much, but I like the outcome of the furry look, and I'm happy with how the twig that he's clinging to turned out as well. The background was going to be a cobblestone wall, but turned out to be just a mixture of shading and color that I felt fit the study of the butterfly.
Crits and comments welcome, as usual.

p.s. I'm going to be working on something very creepy next. Heh. |

I think the craftsmanship is great but it does look like the bug is just lieing there. Might try moving the branch donw some of the fly up a little so it looks like its legs are sitting on it and its not laying down. Though that might be exactly what you were going for.
I am sure she will love it.

Nice image, it's pretty. Like the others, I think the bug itself, may give me emotional scars. Kinda looks like a spider-fly-butterfly. |

napalm: you caught me... you are looking at the 800x600 image... the original is 1600x, and the butterfly in it is ACTUAL SIZE (at 72dpi)... that "twig" is actually the lowest limb on a redwood that I saw one time in a national park.
But seriously... I always thought that butterflies were creepy as well... when asked to discribe a butterfly, I call them "cockroaches with pretty wings".
I kinda fell in my own trap on this one... I started with the wings, got them nice and cute and pretty, then moved on to the "bug" portion of the butterfly where I started having too much fun. Heh heh.

It kinda looks like the butterfly's head/antennae are so heavy that it can't lift them, other than that, I love it.... cool colors with the bg and the butterfly also |
